Group Financial Controller

PE Backed Engineering & Manufacturing
Salary - £120-140k + wider benefits
Hybrid
Cambridgeshire

We are partnering with a private equity-backed engineering and manufacturing business operating in highly regulated, project-led markets. Following a recent ownership transition, the organisation is entering a new phase of growth focused on operational improvement, stronger governance, and long-term value creation.

The business has an established international footprint and delivers complex products and solutions to customers operating in critical environments. Finance plays a central role in supporting strategic decision-making, performance improvement, and commercial delivery across the organisation.

Role

This is a senior finance leadership opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Deputy Finance Director seeking broader strategic exposure.

As a member of the leadership team, you will take ownership of the financial control environment whilst partnering closely with operational and commercial stakeholders. The position combines technical financial leadership with business partnering, transformation, and value creation initiatives.

The role offers direct exposure to board-level decision making, finance transformation programmes, and a clear pathway towards Finance Director level responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key member of the leadership team, providing financial insight to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Lead and continuously improve the financial control framework, ensuring strong governance and risk management.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, internal controls, and compliant financial processes.
  • Oversee statutory accounts preparation and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and corporate regulations.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process.
  • Ensure compliance across tax, payroll, and indirect tax reporting obligations.
  • Maintain ownership of balance sheet integrity and financial risk management activities.
  • Lead treasury activities including cash management, liquidity planning, and short-term forecasting.
  • Manage foreign currency exposure, hedging activities, and associated accounting requirements.
  • Design and deliver management reporting frameworks that provide meaningful financial and operational insight.
  • Produce timely reporting for senior leadership and board stakeholders.
  • Oversee transactional finance functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and inventory accounting.
  • Support commercial decision-making, investment appraisal, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with operational teams to improve contract performance, supply chain oversight, and profitability.
  • Lead finance transformation and continuous improvement programmes across people, processes, and systems.
  • Support ERP optimisation and wider business change initiatives.
  • Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing finance team.
  • Influence stakeholders across a matrix organisation and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
