Group Financial Controller | Leisure & Hospitality | Surrey | £120,000 to £130,000 plus car allowance, bonus & benefits

Zachary Daniels Finance is partnering with a high-profile, multi-site leisure and hospitality organisation to appoint a Group Financial Controller into a senior and broad-ranging finance leadership role.

Reporting directly to the CFO and sitting on the Finance Leadership Team, this is significantly more than a traditional financial control position. Alongside ownership of Group reporting, statutory accounting, tax, treasury and financial governance, the role has a broad leadership remit extending beyond traditional financial control, with responsibility for a sizeable team and several key business functions.

The organisation is entering a significant period of investment and change, making this an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Financial Controller who enjoys solving complex problems, improving how businesses operate and influencing beyond the traditional boundaries of finance.

The Role

  • Lead the Group controllership agenda, ensuring accurate, relevant and timely financial reporting across the organisation.
  • Own the Group statutory accounts process, external audit relationship and Group balance sheet.
  • Lead Group cash flow forecasting, covenant reporting and working capital performance.
  • Oversee Group tax compliance and the relationship with HMRC, including VAT and wider regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical accounting leadership across significant and non-routine transactions under FRS 102.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across broader operational and commercial functions outside of core Finance.
  • Drive improvements across financial operations, processes, controls and service levels.
  • Own the finance systems framework and play a key role in systems implementation and wider finance transformation.
  • Lead financial input into significant commercial contracts, investment decisions and business-wide projects.
  • Support the CFO with refinancing and investment activity.
  • Manage key external relationships including auditors, tax advisers, banks and other professional partners.
  • Lead and develop a sizeable team, creating a high-performance environment while building capability and succession.
  • Operate as an active member of the senior leadership community, representing Finance across major commercial, organisational and strategic initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
