Overview of Role

The Group Financial Controller is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the day- to-day management of the Group finance function and ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and commercially valuable financial reporting. The role provides operational and strategic financial leadership across the Group, supporting growth, acquisitions, and continuous business improvement.

This person will lead and develop the finance team, drive high standards of financial control, and maintain robust month-end close processes, consolidated reporting, cash flow forecasting, statutory compliance, and ongoing enhancement of systems and processes. As the Group continues to pursue an acquisitive growth strategy, the Group Financial Controller will play a key role in integrating newly acquired businesses and establishing consistency in financial operations across all sites.

Roles and Responsibilities

Leadership and Financial Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Group finance team (5 staff), fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture.
  • Oversee daily finance operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant processes.

Financial Reporting and Month-End Close

  • Own the month-end close process and deliver timely, accurate management accounts for all entities.
  • Manage the monthly consolidation of Group results in line with accounting standards and internal reporting requirements.
  • Produce insightful financial reporting, strengthened KPIs, and enhanced board reporting to support effective strategic decision-making.

Cash Flow Management

  • Lead weekly and monthly cash flow management, including preparation of the 12-week cash flow forecast.
  • Oversee supplier payments, debtor collections, and working capital performance across the Group.

Acquisition Integration and Financial Controls

  • Support and lead the financial integration of acquired businesses into Group systems, processes, controls, and reporting structures.
  • Ensure best-practice financial controls are embedded and consistently applied across all sites.

Systems, Processes and Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements to finance systems, processes, and automation to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial insight.
  • Lead ongoing development of dashboards, reporting tools, and KPI frameworks.

Operational Finance Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly sales reporting and ensure accurate commission processing.
  • Oversee payroll in line with internal controls and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all Group transactions, journals, reconciliations, and adjustments.

Audit, Compliance and External Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, overseeing statutory accounts, tax matters, and audit requirements.
  • Ensure robust compliance with accounting standards, legal obligations, and financial regulations.

Senior Leadership Collaboration

  • Work closely with the CFO, senior leadership team, and the Board to support strategic planning, performance reviews, and long-term financial modelling.
  • Provide financial insight to enable strong operational and commercial decision-making across business units.

Skills and Requirements

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
  • Proven experience as a Group Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager.
  • Demonstrable people management experience with the ability to develop and inspire a high-performing team.
  • Leading the development and identification of areas of improvement that will enable the business to scale efficiently.
  • Experience working within a multi-site environment is preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting capability with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercially minded, proactive, and ambitious, with potential to grow into a broader FD remit.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
  • High levels of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Payroll experience.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining strong financial control.
