Group Financial Controller
East Midlands | E-Commerce / Multi-Channel Group | Hybrid Working | Up to £90,000
OVERVIEW
AtkinsClarke are delighted to exclusively support a high-growth, family-run e-commerce business in the search for a Group Financial Controller. This is a pivotal finance leadership role within a thriving, ambitious organisation at a critical point in its development. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will own the financial planning, reporting and commercial insight function across the group, supporting the executive team and board with clear, actionable financial visibility and strategic recommendations as the business scales. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise in financial control with genuine commercial acumen, helping to drive profitability, efficiency and informed decision-making across a growing, multi-faceted operation.

Our client is a well-established, family-owned e-commerce business with a turnover of c£45m, operating across multiple channels. The organisation has experienced sustained growth and continues to invest in capability, systems and infrastructure to support the next phase of expansion. OPPORTUNITY
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Group Financial Controller will own the financial control, planning and commercial insight function across the group. You will lead the finance function (a bookkeeper and outsourced accounting support), whilst acting as the trusted advisor to the executive team on financial performance, commercial opportunity and operational efficiency. This is a broad and genuinely influential role, combining technical rigour with strategic partnership and team leadership.

Key responsibilities include:
- Producing monthly management accounts and consolidated P&L reporting across all group entities
- Leading budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and long-range financial planning
- Ownership of gross margin and EBITDA reporting and continuous improvement
- Managing inventory and stock-control processes, with focus on working capital optimisation
- Supplier spend analysis, purchasing leverage and cost-reduction initiatives
- Cash-flow forecasting, working-capital management and liquidity planning
- Supporting departmental budgets and driving financial accountability across operational leaders
- Designing and maintaining management dashboards, KPIs and performance reporting
- Driving financial modelling to support group growth, integration and strategic initiatives
- Providing rigorous commercial challenge and insight to the MD and senior leadership team
- Developing the finance team as the business scales
PERSON
We are seeking an experienced financial controller with proven technical capability and genuine commercial mindset. You will ideally demonstrate:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Significant experience in a financial control or management accounting role
- Strong experience with multi-entity or group consolidation and intercompany accounting
- Proficiency in management reporting, forecasting and financial modelling
- Demonstrable track record in cost analysis, inventory management and working-capital optimisation
- Comfortable with developing systems and data - ideally with ERP experience
- Confidence communicating financial insight to non-finance stakeholders
- A commercial, problem-solving mindset with genuine interest in business performance
- Ability to balance technical rigour with pragmatism and pace
