Company Introduction
Trespass is a leading outdoor clothing and equipment brand known for its commitment to performance, quality, and affordability. Headquartered in Glasgow, with over 300 retail stores worldwide, a strong online presence and a growing international business, we are expanding into exciting new markets including Poland, Canada and Germany. Trespass designs gear to suit everyone from casual adventurers to serious outdoor enthusiasts. The brand offers a wide range of products, including waterproof jackets, ski wear, hiking boots, and camping gear — all engineered to withstand the elements while offering comfort and style. Trespass prides itself on innovation and accessibility, making the outdoors open to all. The group also includes Nevisport, the specialist outdoor retailer.
The Opportunity
As the business continues to grow internationally, Trespass is looking to appoint a Group Financial Controller to partner closely with the Head of Finance across all aspects of the finance function. You will take ownership of the UK division while playing a central role in group reporting, consolidation and the financial control of our growing network of overseas entities. This is a highly visible role, integral to both the finance function and the wider organisation. Trespass is also embarking on a significant programme of systems transformation, and you will be key to its successful delivery. Working alongside the Directors and senior leaders to support key business decisions, you will have real opportunities to influence the direction of the business and sharpen your commercial edge.
The Group Financial Controller will develop into a true finance leader, initially with 2-3 direct reports and a varied, wide-ranging remit spanning every part of the business, from retail and e-commerce to wholesale and international operations. There is scope to shape the role around the successful candidate's experience and development ambitions.
Main Responsibilities
- Own the preparation of the monthly management accounts for the parent company, Jacobs & Turner Limited
- Lead the month-end close across the rest of the UK division, reviewing and supporting the preparation of entity accounts
- Oversee monthly reporting for the group's international subsidiaries, working closely with overseas finance teams, local accountants and service providers to ensure consistent, accurate and timely reporting
- Lead the group consolidation, including intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, foreign currency translation and group reporting
- Deliver accurate, insightful monthly reporting to the Directors against agreed deadlines, highlighting key trends, risks and opportunities
- Act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Finance, supporting all areas of finance and the day-to-day leadership of the finance department
- Manage compliance with UK and international tax, VAT and other statutory reporting obligations, working with external advisers on overseas filings
- Support the group's international expansion, including setting up new overseas entities, banking arrangements, local compliance requirements and finance processes
- Oversee intercompany trading and transfer pricing arrangements, working with tax advisers to ensure these remain robust and compliant
- Manage multi-currency reporting and support the monitoring of foreign exchange exposure, cash and treasury requirements across the group
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and other month-end control files
- Support the preparation of group budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections, providing insight into performance across the UK and international markets
- Lead the year-end audit process across the group, acting as the key point of contact for UK and overseas auditors and overseeing the preparation of statutory accounts
- Oversee the administration of property leases across the UK and international retail store portfolio, including the associated lease accounting
- Provide financial analysis to support key commercial decisions, including lease renewals, new store openings and investment appraisals
- Build strong relationships with Directors and senior managers across the business, communicating clearly on day-to-day activities, findings from analysis and ad hoc requests
- Lead, coach and develop a team of 2-3 direct reports, building a capable and motivated finance team
- Keep up to date with technical and regulatory developments in the UK and overseas, acting as a key source of accounting expertise for the team and the wider business
- Ensure robust financial controls are in place across the group and work with the wider finance team to continually improve them in line with best practice
- Identify efficiencies to streamline and improve our processes, playing a key role in the systems transformation project team
- Champion the use of automation, data and reporting tools to improve the speed and quality of financial information across the group

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
