About The Role

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Contractual base: Flexible across our offices: Tewkesbury, Norwich or Exeter

Operational requirement: Regular travel across the Bromford Flagship LiveWest geography

As our Group Head of Health & Safety, you'll provide strategic leadership across the organisation, shaping the future of health and safety for over 120,000 homes, colleagues, customers, contractors and communities.

This is a high-profile leadership role where you'll influence at Board and Executive level, ensuring health and safety remains embedded in our culture, values and decision-making.

You will champion recognised Health & Safety best practice across the Group, ensuring safety arrangements support both regulatory compliance and commercially effective service delivery. You will also oversee the selection, implementation and ongoing compliance with an externally recognised Health & Safety management framework, providing assurance to Executive and Board stakeholders.

You'll lead our health and safety strategy, develop a high-performing team and ensure our framework continues to support both regulatory compliance and business success.

Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, you'll drive continuous improvement, strengthen assurance and governance arrangements, and help us create safer environments where people can thrive.

What You'll Be Doing

As Group Head of Health & Safety, you will be the principal authority for Health & Safety across Bromford Flagship LiveWest. You will lead the development and delivery of our Group Health & Safety strategy, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while embedding industry best practice and a positive safety culture across the organisation.

Working closely with Executive leaders, Board Committees and operational teams, you will provide strategic advice on emerging risks, oversee robust governance arrangements and deliver assurance on the effectiveness of our Health & Safety management systems.

You will champion continuous improvement, ensuring our approach remains aligned to recognised external standards and supports safe, sustainable and commercially effective service delivery.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Lead and own the organisation's Health & Safety Strategy, ensuring it reflects current legislation, recognised best practice, emerging risks and business priorities.
  • Provide expert strategic advice and constructive challenge to Executive Leaders, Boards and Committees.
  • Oversee health and safety governance, assurance frameworks, reporting arrangements and compliance activities, including the implementation and ongoing compliance with an externally recognised Health & Safety management framework.
  • Develop and deliver a Group-wide Health & Safety assurance programme, providing independent assurance on the effectiveness of controls and governance arrangements and compliance with recognised Health & Safety standards.
  • Lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies, standards and operational frameworks.
  • Drive a proactive and positive safety culture across all areas of the business, including housing operations, maintenance, construction and corporate services.
  • Lead, coach and develop a highly effective team of health and safety professionals.
  • Monitor organisational performance, using data and insight to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage the health and safety budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources, value for money and commercially informed decision making.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced and credible health and safety leader who combines strategic thinking with a pragmatic, people-focused approach.

You'll Bring

  • Significant experience leading health and safety functions within a complex organisation.
  • Proven success in developing and delivering health and safety strategies that improve organisational performance, compliance and continuous improvement through recognised best practice.
  • Strong leadership and people management experience, with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at Executive, Board and operational levels.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, governance and assurance practices and recognised Health & Safety management standards.
  • Experience developing assurance programmes and providing assurance reporting to Executive and Board audiences.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, using data and evidence to drive improvements.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining recognised Health & Safety management standards and frameworks.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to balance risk, compliance and operational priorities.
  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively, demonstrating strong commercial awareness and value-for-money principles.
  • A Level 6 qualification (or degree level equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Full UK driving licence.
