Q-Mass are a market leading, global, sub-contract, precision machining supplier. Q-Mass are also a passionate manufacturing organisation providing world class precision machining to its customers specification and tolerances. Each customer’s products are manufactured by exceptional people using best-in-class machinery. Moreover, continuous re-investment in the business has seen our range of services increase organically to include 5-axis CNC Turning & Milling, EDM Spark & Wire erosion, Gun-Drilling, Honing, VAM threading and CMM Inspection.

The sectors Q-Mass serve include Aerospace, Space, Defence, Renewables, Oil & Gas.

Founded in 2006, Q-Mass has grown to employ almost 50 people with an annual turnover approaching £12M from our base in East Kilbride. Following a very successful acquisition in 2024, which has enhanced the business even further, 2027 and beyond will be very exciting times ahead of growth and expansion for Q-Mass. This expansion will also include growth by further acquisition which will add further scope and regional, multi-site responsibility to this newly created HR Manager role.

Job Overview / Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Group HR Business Partner to lead and deliver both the strategic and operational HR agenda across our multi-site precision engineering and manufacturing business.

This is a standalone role that combines hands-on HR delivery with strategic people leadership. Acting as a trusted partner to senior leaders and managers, the successful candidate will develop and implement people initiatives that support business growth, organisational capability, employee engagement and talent development, while also providing practical day-to-day HR support across the Group.

The role is responsible for the full employee lifecycle, including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, learning and development, workforce planning, employee engagement and compliance. A key focus will be developing people, strengthening leadership capability, building succession plans and ensuring the organisation has the talent and skills required to meet its current and future business objectives.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, influencing business decisions whilst remaining actively involved in supporting managers and employees across all sites.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR & Business Partnering

  • Develop and implement the Group People Strategy aligned to business objectives.
  • Partner with Directors and managers to support workforce planning and organisational development.
  • Provide people-based insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Lead succession planning and talent management activities.
  • Support organisational change, business growth and integration projects.
  • Coach leaders to strengthen management and leadership capability.

Operational HR Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all HR matters across the Group.
  • Provide practical advice and guidance on employee relations, absence, performance and disciplinary matters, supporting formal meetings where required.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures and records are maintained and compliant.
  • Support payroll processes, salary reviews and benefits administration.
  • Produce HR metrics and reports for management review.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies and employment legislation.
  • Manage and advise on disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence matters.
  • Support managers with performance management and employee issues.
  • Drive an effective recruitment and onboarding process.

Talent, Learning & Development

  • Develop training and development plans aligned to business needs.
  • Identify skills gaps and future capability requirements.
  • Support apprenticeships, succession planning and career pathways.
  • Lead annual performance and development review processes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Employee Engagement & Culture

  • Lead employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Support communication and culture-building activities across all sites.
  • Monitor employee feedback and work with managers on action plans.
  • Foster an inclusive, positive and high-performing working environment.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong generalist HR experience across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Sound knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience advising, coaching and influencing managers at all levels.
  • Ability to develop and implement people strategies aligned to business objectives.
  • Experience managing employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence cases.
  • Strong recruitment, talent acquisition and workforce planning experience.
  • Experience designing and delivering learning and development initiatives.
  • Knowledge of performance management, succession planning and talent development processes.
  • Ability to analyse people data and use insights to support business decision-making.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication, coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of how people initiatives support operational performance.
  • Experience developing and implementing HR policies, procedures and improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance strategic projects and operational priorities.
  • Proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel between Group sites.

Desirable

  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, aerospace or technical environment.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified as a minimum (Level 7 desirable).
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations.
  • Experience leading organisational change and business transformation projects, including integrating teams following acquisitions or business growth.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship programmes, early careers development and skills funding.
  • Experience supporting succession planning for technical and operational roles.
  • Experience of TUPE.
