About The Shared Functions

The Group Shared Functions (GSF) supports the growth of all our e-commerce platforms. With offices in London, Luxembourg, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam, we are a diverse and dynamic team working in Tech, Legal, Finance, Tax, Strategy, Investor Relations, Brand Partnerships, Communications and People & Culture.

THE TEAM

Reporting directly to the Group General Counsel & Company Secretary based in London, you will be part of The Global Legal, Governance and Compliance Function across London, Luxembourg, Singapore, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, Sao Paulo and Colombia.

SCOPE OF ROLE

The Group Legal Counsel is a broad role with responsibility for delivering high-quality legal advice and services. You will be hands-on and commercially minded legal counsel, with a professional ethic and the energy, interest and training to pursue a broad array of legal matters. As Group Legal Counsel, you will gain an excellent understanding of all aspects of the GFG business and embrace its vision of being the leading fashion and lifestyle destination across LATAM, SEA & ANZ.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, this role will work autonomously to deliver practical and hands-on legal advice across a broad suite of Legal & Compliance areas to serve the needs of the GSF and GFG as a whole.

You will work closely with the Group General Counsel & Company Secretary and other members of the Global Legal & Compliance Team, senior executives, as well as other internal and external stakeholders across the Group. The role will entail providing day-to-day legal support to the GSF, GFG and the wider business across the Group as required, either directly or by managing support from external counsel. The ability to effectively coordinate, manage and supervise external counsel as necessary is crucial.

The practice areas covered by the role are broad, however, the role is likely to include an element of each of the following: cross-border corporate transactions, M&A, capital markets projects (both equity and debt), corporate reorganisations; internal and third-party debt financing arrangements; other corporate finance and related matters; compliance and regulatory projects, advising on disputes, employment matters, intellectual property and commercial contracts. This is a great opportunity for a qualified lawyer who is keen about technology and e-commerce (and fashion!), to join a dynamic and fast-paced company.

What It Takes

  • Qualified lawyer with significant PQE gained in private practice and preferably combined with experience obtained in-house. The private practice experience should ideally have been gained in a top tier law firm, but applicants from other backgrounds will be considered if they can demonstrate the required level of experience, skills and drive.
  • In-house experience, ideally gained within a multinational company
  • Strong commercial acumen and judgement
  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • Ability to manage upwards, keeping GSF Leaders and GFG Executives informed & updated regarding important issues
  • Ability to influence and take a leading role.
  • Ability to identify, mitigate and manage risks in a manner that aligns with the organisation’s risk appetite and objectives
  • Excellent writing and drafting skills, attention to detail and the ability to present clearly and precisely to stakeholders, enabling others to understand the key facts and issues
  • Ability to seek feedback from internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality of service and work output is maintained to the highest standards
  • Keen to share knowledge with the Global Legal, Governance and Compliance function as a whole, taking an active role in team leadership and educational opportunities, periodic global team meetings and other initiatives
  • Extremely well-organised, methodical and efficient with the ability to self-motivate and drive initiatives
  • Dynamic and proficient in handling multiple material matters at any one time and able to balance quality with expedience
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet critical deadlines
  • Proven track record of creating and encouraging positive relationships with team members and team cohesion, as well as internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to tailor your approach to deliver clear, powerful, and succinct messages to stakeholders at all levels.
