Our client is part of a UK based PLC with a long-standing reputation for producing products used in the renewable energy sector and the reduction of emissions across the globe. Having enjoyed 10 years of successive growth as well as huge investment in R&D, the group is now well positioned to achieve its growth targets for the next 10 years.

With a diverse customer base across the UK, the PLC has decided to amalgamate some of its business units with a similar product group or customers together to take advantage of any synergies and efficiencies, and with a new Group Managing Director, the next stage is to recruit a new Operations Director to lead the transformation programme.

About the Role

The newly amalgamated companies work in highly regulated sectors where Health & Safety is paramount. With sites across the Midlands, Scotland and the South West of England, it is a varied manufacturing environment and includes metal welding and machining as well as electrical assembly. Some of the sites are more productive than others and one in particular has suffered from challenges around quality, production planning and stock levels.

The new Group Operations Director will take responsibility for the complete Operations function across the different sites - this will include Manufacturing, Production Planning, Health & Safety, Distribution & Installation and Procurement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
