Group Planning Assistant - Group
Are you looking to take the next step in your planning career and gain hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle?
We are looking for a Group Planning Assistant to join our team and support planning activity across the North Midlands and Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about planning, curious about how developments come forward, and keen to build their technical knowledge and professional experience within a growing development environment.
You will work closely with our Group Planning Manager, Land, Technical, Commercial, Construction and Sales teams, as well as Local Planning Authorities and external consultants. From researching potential development sites through to planning applications, conditions, Section 106 obligations and ongoing compliance, you will get involved in a broad range of work that will give you a genuine understanding of the development planning process.
What will you be doing?
No two days will be the same. You will have the opportunity to:
- Support the planning function across our North Midlands and Yorkshire regions.
- Research planning history, policies, site allocations, constraints, housing land supply and other key planning considerations to support land appraisals.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of planning applications and pre-application enquires.
- Coordinate and monitor discharge of condition applications, ensuring information is gathered, submissions are made and deadlines are tracked.
- Monitor live planning applications and identify emerging issues, risks and delays.
- Review planning decisions, conditions and Section 106 obligations, ensuring important requirements and trigger points are accurately recorded.
- Carry out research into Local Plans, emerging planning policy, affordable housing, housing mix and other planning matters.
- Prepare planning correspondence, briefing notes, reports and site appraisal information.
- Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, consultants and other stakeholders on routine planning matters.
- Coordinate information from different teams across the business to keep planning submissions moving.
- Maintain accurate planning trackers, records and key dates.
- Assist with non-material amendments, Section 73 applications and other planning submissions.
- Attend meetings, site visits, planning committees and pre-application meetings where required.
- Take ownership of allocated planning workstreams, managing them through to completion and escalating issues where appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
