Group Financial Accountant
My client, a leading global engineering business, is looking to appoint a technically strong and commercially minded Group Financial Accountant to join their head office finance team in Warrington.
This is a senior role offering excellent exposure to complex technical accounting, external audit and senior finance stakeholders, with plenty of opportunity to take ownership and play a key role in developing a reporting model that can support the continued growth of the business.

What you'll be doing:
- Take ownership of the balance sheet for a portfolio of UK legal entities, covering areas including pensions, provisions, impairment, investments, joint ventures, intercompany and financing, with responsibility for monthly review and sign-off ahead of Group submission.
- Lead the preparation of high-quality statutory accounts and provide audit support, proactively identifying and resolving technical accounting issues.
- Manage defined areas of the UK consolidation process, including intercompany positions, consolidation journals and detailed analytical reviews.
- Provide cover and support to the Group Reporting Manager across statutory reporting, Group reporting, audit and technical accounting activities.
- Lead external reporting requirements for newly acquired or changing businesses, establishing clear ownership, processes, controls and reporting timetables.
- Work closely with Management Accounts teams to ensure operating performance remains close to the business, while providing specialist oversight of technical and statutory matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting through standardisation, automation and better use of data and systems.
- Own and review technical balance sheet and non-operating items as part of monthly legal-entity review and certification processes.
- Prepare technical accounting papers and support key half-year and year-end judgements, disclosures and analytical reviews.
- Get involved in wider technical accounting, reporting and finance transformation projects alongside the External Reporting Manager and Head of Finance.

What we're looking for:
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, with strong experience in statutory accounts and external reporting gained either within practice audit or a complex, multi-entity group.
- Strong practical knowledge of IFRS, FRS 101 and FRS 102.
- The ability to work through complex transactions, journals and balance sheet movements, applying sound judgement and producing well-supported conclusions.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability, with confidence working across large and complex datasets and turning analysis into clear insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- A high level of ownership and independence, with the ability to manage competing priorities and reporting deadlines effectively.
- Experience of Group reporting or consolidation within a multi-entity environment; multi-currency experience would be beneficial.
- Good understanding of general ledger and sub-ledger transactions, period-end close and balance sheet reconciliations, with a strong focus on financial controls.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations or reporting changes within a growing organisation.
- Experience with ERP, consolidation or reporting systems, alongside the ability to lead cross-functional workstreams or support and coach colleagues.
