About Connect
Connect is one of the UK's leading specialist mortgage networks and packagers, supporting appointed representative (AR) firms and advisers across residential, buy-to-let, commercial, bridging, second charge and specialist lending, together with protection and general insurance referrals. As a directly authorised, FCA-regulated business, we hold ourselves and our network members to the highest standards of regulatory conduct and customer outcomes. As the Group continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Group Risk Manager to strengthen and lead our risk management capability across the business.
The Role
Reporting to the Compliance Director and working closely with the Compliance, Training & Competence and Operations teams, the Group Risk Manager will own the Group's Risk Management Framework and act as the second line of defence across all Group entities. You will identify, assess, monitor and report on the risks facing the business and its network of appointed representatives, ensure our policy suite remains current and effective, and embed a strong risk culture that supports good customer outcomes in line with the FCA's Consumer Duty.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing and checking mortgage and protection files for suitability, affordability and fair customer outcomes, in line with FCA MCOB (Mortgages and Home Finance: Conduct of Business) rules and ICOBS (Insurance: Conduct of Business) requirements for protection sales
- Supporting advisers with day-to-day risk & compliance queries, including application of the Consumer Duty (PRIN 2A) particularly the four outcomes: products and services, price and value, consumer understanding, and consumer support
- Assisting with financial crime checks, including AML (Money Laundering Regulations 2017), sanctions screening, and fraud prevention as part of file and adviser due diligence
- Contributing to complaints handling oversight in line with DISP (Dispute Resolution: Complaints) rules, and root cause analysis to feed back into the Consumer Duty
- Design and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and produce clear, insightful MI and risk reporting for the Board and senior management, with escalation of emerging risks and breaches.
- Support the Risk Committee, tracking remedial actions through to closure.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
