- Provide visible, hands-on leadership across all four kitchens and set clear standards for food quality, nutrition, presentation, and service.
- Promote consistent working practices while recognizing each home’s resident needs, preferences, and operational requirements.
- Plan regular site visits, review performance, and ensure agreed improvements are completed and sustained.
- Support business continuity and safe catering arrangements during staffing shortages, equipment failure, or other operational disruption.
Menu planning and resident experience

- Ensure each home follows the current food safety management system, HACCP controls, approved procedures, and record-keeping requirements.
- Prepare, maintain, and regularly review an accurate allergen matrix for each home, ensuring it reflects current menus, recipes, ingredients, and supplier information.
- Ensure allergen controls, food labelling, traceability, temperature monitoring, cleaning, stock rotation, and corrective actions are consistently applied.
- Lead preparation for EHO inspections, internal audits, and other assurance activity, and ensure identified actions are completed and verified.
Resident wellbeing, CQC, and IDDSI
- Ensure catering services support compliance with CQC requirements by meeting residents’ assessed nutritional and hydration needs and respecting their choices and preferences.
- Ensure texture-modified food and thickened drinks are prepared, tested, labelled, presented, and recorded in accordance with the current IDDSI Framework, residents’ care plans, and prescribed levels.
- Ensure the correct meal is provided to the correct resident using reliable meal identification and handover arrangements.
- Promote dignity, choice, and enjoyable mealtimes, and escalate food-related, allergen, nutritional, or swallowing risks promptly.
- Ensure relevant catering staff are trained and assessed as competent for the duties they perform.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
