Acre is proudly supporting THOR in their search for a Group Sustainability & ESG Specialist.
About the Role
As Group Sustainability & ESG Specialist, the successful candidate will support the delivery of THOR's global sustainability strategy and help strengthen how sustainability is embedded across the Group. Working directly with the Head of Sustainability, the post holder will coordinate key activities across ESG reporting, data management, customer sustainability enquiries, product sustainability, and strategic sustainability programmes.
This is a broad and varied role for a professional who combines strong analytical capability with practical project coordination, clear communication, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. The post holder will collaborate with colleagues across Finance, Procurement, Manufacturing, Commercial, HR, R&D, and site teams to improve sustainability data, support decision-making, and respond effectively to growing customer, regulatory, and stakeholder expectations.
The role offers the opportunity to build expertise across climate change, environment, human rights and labour practices, ESG reporting, Life Cycle Assessment, EcoVadis, responsible sourcing, sustainability regulation, and strategy within a global speciality chemicals business.
Key Responsibilities
ESG Reporting & Data Management
- Coordinate the collection, validation, and analysis of sustainability data across THOR's global operations.
- Maintain and improve ESG reporting tools, data registers, evidence files, and reporting processes.
- Support the preparation of the Group Sustainability Report, internal management reporting, and executive reporting packs.
- Prepare sustainability dashboards, KPI summaries, and trend analysis to support decision-making.
- Coordinate supporting evidence for external assurance, customer requests, and sustainability disclosures.
- Support the annual greenhouse gas inventory process, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 data.
- Coordinate reporting of energy, carbon emissions, water, waste, and other environmental performance indicators.
Product Sustainability
- Support the Life Cycle Assessment team and related product sustainability projects.
- Assist with Portfolio Sustainability Assessment activities and future product sustainability approaches.
Customer, Commercial & Supply Chain Support
- Coordinate responses to customer sustainability questionnaires, platforms, and information requests.
- Support EcoVadis assessments, customer sustainability portals, and other external sustainability submissions.
- Develop and maintain customer-facing sustainability factsheets, presentations, and standard response materials.

Sustainable Procurement Support
- Provide coordination and analytical support for Group sustainable procurement initiatives.
- Support supplier sustainability assessments, including EcoVadis and customer-driven supplier data requests.
- Assist with maintaining sustainability guidance, templates, and resources for Procurement.
Sustainability Programme Delivery
- Support delivery of the Group Sustainability Strategy and annual sustainability objectives.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and papers for the Sustainability Committee, Executive Leadership Team, and other internal stakeholders.
- Support internal sustainability communications, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
ESG Governance & Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor emerging sustainability legislation, reporting standards, and industry developments relevant to THOR.
- Support the implementation of new sustainability reporting, governance, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in maintaining sustainability policies, procedures, evidence records, and governance documentation.
Human Rights, Labour Practices & DEI Support
- Support Group human rights risk management and DEI-related activities, including risk mapping, evidence collection, action tracking, internal communications, and coordination with relevant functions and sites.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Degree or equivalent experience in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Business, or a related discipline.
- 3-5+ years' experience in sustainability, ESG, environmental management, data analysis, or a similar project-based role (consulting or industry/manufacturing).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with large, complex datasets.
- Excellent organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Clear written, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information in a practical way.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across different functions, regions, and levels of the organisation.
- A proactive, curious, and self-motivated approach, with a willingness to learn across a broad sustainability agenda.

Desirable
- Experience preparing ESG, sustainability, or environmental reports.
- Knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting and the GHG Protocol.
- Experience with EcoVadis, CDP, or customer sustainability assessments.
- Understanding of Life Cycle Assessment, Product Carbon Footprints, or product sustainability data.
- Experience using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.
- Knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and emerging sustainability regulations.
- Experience within manufacturing, chemicals, or other industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with sustainability data management systems, assurance processes, or audit evidence requirements.
