Govan Community Project
Govan Community Project is a community-based organisation working in south-west Glasgow. We provide a range of holistic support services for individuals and families in the asylum and refugee community including advice & advocacy, food support, social groups, English classes and a range of community based activities which support community members to build connections in their community.
To support our charitable activities, we currently operate a successful social enterprise business, Voiceover Interpreting (www.voiceoverglasgow.org.uk), which delivers high quality interpreting and translation services.
Overall Purpose of the Role
The Business Growth Manager will lead the strategic growth and commercial development of Voiceover Interpreting. The role focuses on expanding market share across public, private, and third sectors, increasing sustainable income, and strengthening operational delivery through effective leadership.
This position plays a critical role in scaling GCP’s impact by improving access to language services while ensuring long-term financial sustainability and social impact.
Whilst initially part time hours, subject to satisfactory growth of revenue, there is potential for the role to become full time in the future to support further growth of the enterprise.
Priority Focus – 6 – 9 Months
The first 6 – 9 months of the role will have a priority focus on:
- New Governance Structures as a CIC
- Building pipeline through partnerships, procurement and key relationships
- Supporting priority marketing activity
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Voiceover CIC
- Work with GCP Chief Executive and Board of Trustees to establish Voiceover Interpreting as an independent CIC
- Identify key milestones and tasks required in relation to the establishment of the CIC
- Work with GCP Chief Executive and Board to oversee TUPE processes for relevant employees
- Ensure the CIC has all relevant policies and procedures in place for compliance with relevant legislation
- Work with GCP Comms Officer on official launch for the CIC
Strategic Growth & Development
- Position the organisation as a trusted provider of accessible and culturally competent language services
- Develop and implement a growth strategy aligned with organisational goals and social mission
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline for sourcing and closing new commercial accounts, commissioned services and existing customer retention and re-engagement
- Lead on public procurement bids and contract negotiations for language service provision
- Lead on ISO certification processes as required
- Develop market specific pitching proposals with the Commercial Manager
- Acting as the face of the company, networking at industry events, and nurturing long-term stakeholder relationships.

Market Expansion
- Analyse the interpreting and translation market, including competitor activity, pricing models, and sector demand
- Increase market share through strategic partnerships with agencies, local authorities, NHS bodies, and community organisations
- Support marketing and communications activity to strengthen visibility and sector reputation
- Evaluate and refine service offerings to ensure competitiveness and impact
Business Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor performance against revenue and growth targets, using data to refine growth strategy
- Provide regular management reports and updates on social enterprise activities to Board of Directors
- Work closely with enterprise managers to ensure efficient delivery of services
- Oversee financial planning and reporting processes
Financial Management
- Set annual targets for income and expenditure
- Contribute to financial planning, pricing strategies, and income diversification
- Monitor budgets, contract performance, and profitability of service strands
- Ensure growth initiatives are financially viable and aligned with social purpose and values
- Identify opportunities to balance commercial income with funded or grant-supported services
- Ensuring trading activities have adequate credit control functions in place and implemented effectively
- Work with the finance staff and accountant to ensure accurate recording of all social enterprise financial transactions

- Align operational delivery with growth targets and client requirements
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance management to ensure high-quality service provision
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven organisational culture
- Support workforce development, including contractors
- Oversee service performance, ensuring responsiveness, accuracy, and client satisfaction
- Contribute to the development and improvement of systems, processes, and workflows
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g. confidentiality, safeguarding, language service quality standards)
Social Impact & Mission Alignment
- Ensure all growth initiatives align with the organisation’s social purpose
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion within service delivery and workforce practices
- Implement systems which enable reporting of the social impact of Voiceover
Other Duties
- Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to strategic development.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming work environment
- Perform any other tasks or duties deemed necessary.
Occasional Weekend or Evening Work may be necessary in this post
Person Specification
Essential Qualities
- Experience managing a commercial enterprise with an annual turnover in excess of £500,000
- Evidenced experience in developing and implementing a successful commercial growth strategy and pipeline
- Evidenced track record of success with public procurement and commissioning frameworks
- Experience working in or with social enterprises, charities, or mission-driven organisations
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Leadership skills which reflect the values of Govan Community Project
- Experience in managing quality assurance of services
- Financial management skills
- Experience in measuring and reporting success and social impact
Desirable
- Experience with attaining ISO accreditation
- Experience of working in the language provision sector
- Knowledge of human rights, equalities and social justice issues
- Understanding the needs of people seeking asylum
