GTM Engineer Role

I'm running a search for a GTM Engineer on behalf of a client: a small, YC-backed AI company building infrastructure for teams deploying AI agents in production. Post-product-market fit, growing fast, and hiring its first GTM Engineer to build the commercial motion from scratch.

Compensation

Comp is $100K to $150K base depending on experience and location, plus 0.2 to 0.4% equity. Fully remote from the US or UK.

Why This One is Worth a Conversation

  • They didn't enter a market, they created one. First to market out of Y Combinator, and a 90% win rate in competitive bake-offs since.
  • Revenue up 10x in a year, ~20% month over month, with real enterprise traction: a live pilot with a top-3 US bank and procurement underway with a Fortune 10.
  • $4.3M raised with a strong investor roster, so there's runway and credibility behind the motion you'd be building.
  • Full-cycle ownership from day one. No split SDR/AE motion, no handoffs. That scope for one person at this stage is rare.
  • You report directly to the CEO, who scaled an AI-driven sales program to nine figures of annual revenue at a household-name company before founding this one.

Role Description

This is not an SDR role. It's not an AE role either.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You own the entire cycle, solo:

  • Outbound pipeline generation (ICP research, cold calls, LinkedIn, Apollo)
  • Discovery calls and live demos with CTOs, VPs of AI and engineering teams, with no sales engineer holding your hand
  • Technical validation, pilots, closing, and basic onboarding
  • Building the repeatable playbooks the next hires will run on
  • Feeding objections and pilot learnings straight back into product

What Actually Matters Here

  • You've built something with AI tools. Not "I use ChatGPT to write my emails", but an agent, a script, an automation, a scraping pipeline, an MCP server. Something you can open up and walk me through. This is the single biggest reason candidates get rejected on this role, regardless of how good their numbers are.

Beyond That

  • 2–5 years in a full-cycle, customer-facing B2B role (GTM, technical sales, forward-deployed engineering, or startup operations)
  • Early-stage or high-growth startup background; you're comfortable when nothing is documented yet
  • Quantifiable outbound track record: pipeline generated, meetings booked, ACV, close rates. Numbers, not narrative
  • First-principles thinker who ramps in days, not months

Two archetypes work equally well: sales/ops people who can cold call and convert, or engineers/FDEs who've built customer-facing systems and want to own the commercial side.

Nice to Have

  • Ex-founder or chief-of-staff background
  • Experience selling into regulated industries or navigating security-heavy procurement
  • Familiarity with AI infrastructure and developer tooling

Probably Not a Fit If

  • You've only ever owned one stage of a split motion
  • Your background is long-cycle enterprise selling with committee-style procurement
  • You'd expect 1–2 months of shadowing before contributing

Logistics

  • Fully remote from the US or UK, with office space available in both if you want it.
  • ~20% domestic travel for conferences and customer visits.
  • No visa sponsorship (US citizens, Green Card holders, or UK work authorization only).

Process

  • Short and hands-on. An intro conversation, a live exercise on pipeline generation and cold calling, a discovery call role-play with the founder, then a paid day with the team before an offer.
  • Two to three weeks end to end.

Interested, or know someone who should be? DM me and I'll share the company, the full brief and the comp details directly. Referrals very welcome.
