Your Role

In this role you will be responsible for day-to-day gym operations and team members, ensuring that we deliver the highest standards of service to our customers. Your role is key to making sure our gym has a lively atmosphere with teams that create a welcoming and fun environment for everyone.

Your Team

You’ll be leading the Gym team, directly reporting to the Fitness Development Manager.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support the Fitness Development Manager with recruitment and establishing a high-performing team.
  • Motivate and mentor team members to create an effective and empowered gym team.
  • Provide positive leadership, always taking full ownership and accountability and leading by example.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the gym facility and offering to the members.
  • Deliver a best-in-class member experience with excelling customer service and ensuring a safe environment at all times.
  • Support the achievement of agreed KPI’s, maintaining high levels of positive feedback, member retention and cleaning and health and safety standards.
  • Manage the rota to ensure cover throughout all operational and opening hours.
  • Ensure the gym facilities are presented at the highest level of cleanliness.
  • Ensure the efficient and swift resolution of all enquiries / complaints and to escalate any unresolved issues to the centre manager.
  • Make sure all members are correctly inducted and that suitable fitness programmes are issued and regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Recognise and reward team members for their performance, using positive leadership skills to develop an empowered team.
  • Manage staff effectively, delegating and assigning tasks and developing staff to ensure a continuously high level of service.
  • Record all team issues including sickness, absence, attendance, performance and any people management issues that may arise.
  • Ensure that team members are adequately trained in all aspects of their work.
  • Assist with the development of members of staff to achieve their personal and workplace aims.
  • Lead the team on all aspects of professional customer service by going the extra mile, being positive and demonstrating a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Ensure good communication within the team and wider business
  • Ensure the gym team follows all relevant Health & Safety policies and procedures and that required checks are completed.
  • Enforce Health and Safety legislation and ensure all staff comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure regular health and safety checks are completed and training records are reviewed and kept up to date.
  • Ensure all equipment and services are properly maintained, service records are up to date
  • Support the Centre Manager with all Standard Operating Procedures for the Gym as required.
  • Build positive relationships with members, proactively gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve their experience and engagement with the gym.

  • Fitness Industry professional with extensive operational experience.
  • Experience of supporting, coaching or supervising colleagues within a team environment.
  • Experience of managing customer enquiries and resolving routine complaints effectively.
  • Experience of promoting fitness services and supporting membership/member engagement activity.
  • Experience of maintaining high standards of health, safety, cleanliness and presentation within a fitness environment.

Your Qualifications

  • Fitness Instructor Level 3 & Personal Trainer
  • First Aid at Work (desirable)
  • Exercise Referral qualifications Level 3 or higher (desirable)
