Job Title: Assistant Laboratory Scientist – Saturday Staff
Reports to: Head of Department – Sara Unwin
Department: Haematology
Business Unit: Nationwide Laboratories

Main Purpose of the Role
The role of Assistant Laboratory Scientist is focused on supporting the department in striving for customer service excellence in internal and external activities. They should provide support to the team in ensuring that all initiatives are fully implemented and that role model/ambassador behavior, values, and beliefs are adopted across the department. An Assistant Laboratory Scientist should be able to work well with minimal supervision, whilst also working effectively as a key team member to maximize the overall service delivered. A flexible ‘can do’ approach is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Routine preparation of blood and urine samples.
- Operation of Advia analyser.
- Sample reception.
- Use of the LIMS system for result entry and data checking.
- Maintaining and correct use of Laboratory equipment.
- Adherence to and maintenance of written Standard Operating Procedures.
- Laboratory general housekeeping.
- Responsible for delivering their assigned areas of work, liaising with the Section Head and colleagues as necessary.
- Ensures that internal and external quality control requirements are met.
- Works flexibly and collaboratively.
- Adopts role model behavior, values, and beliefs.
