FULLY REMOTE / Initial 2 month contract / Inside IR35

Job Description

The Hardware Asset Management (HAM) Architect defines and governs the enterprise-wide strategy, operating model, architecture, processes, and tooling for Hardware Asset Management. You will ensure that all physical technology assets are effectively managed throughout their lifecycle, from procurement and deployment through to retirement and disposal. Working closely with procurement, finance, enterprise architecture, service management, security, workplace services, datacentre teams, and technology suppliers, you will provide strategic leadership across asset governance, inventory management, financial optimisation, CMDB alignment, lifecycle management, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the enterprise Hardware Asset Management strategy and roadmap, ensuring it supports wider organisational objectives.
  • Develop target-state HAM operating models, processes, and governance structures that provide clear ownership and accountability.
  • Establish architectural standards, principles, and controls for end-to-end asset lifecycle management.
  • Ensure HAM capabilities align with broader IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Enterprise Architecture principles and frameworks.
  • Lead HAM transformation initiatives, including the selection, implementation, and optimisation of tooling and platforms.
  • Design and govern end-to-end hardware lifecycle processes covering planning, asset receipt, deployment, moves/adds/changes, maintenance, refresh and replacement, and retirement and disposal.
  • Ensure accurate asset ownership, accountability, and traceability throughout the entire asset lifecycle.
  • Support asset refresh and technology modernisation programmes, ensuring alignment with strategic technology roadmaps.
  • Establish and maintain HAM policies, procedures, and operational controls to support consistent and compliant asset management.
  • Ensure compliance with financial, regulatory, security, and audit requirements related to physical asset management.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate asset data, documentation, and evidence of control effectiveness.
  • Define asset governance metrics and reporting, ensuring clear visibility of asset status, risks, and performance.
  • Ensure alignment and reconciliation between asset repositories, procurement systems, and CMDB records to maintain data integrity.
  • Partner with finance and procurement teams to support budget planning, forecasting, asset depreciation tracking, cost allocation, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise hardware utilisation, reduce waste, and improve return on asset investments.
  • Support contract and supplier management activities by providing asset insights and usage data.
  • Define the architecture for HAM platforms and integrations, ensuring scalability, resilience, and alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of asset inventories and configuration data across all relevant systems.
  • Design and oversee integrations between CMDB platforms, discovery tools, procurement systems, ERP platforms, and service management platforms.
  • Improve data quality, reporting, and asset visibility across the enterprise, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Develop environmentally responsible asset retirement and disposal strategies that support sustainability goals.
  • Ensure compliance with electronic waste regulations and data destruction requirements during asset disposition.
  • Support asset reutilisation, refurbishment, and circular economy initiatives to maximise asset value and minimise environmental impact.
  • Track and report sustainability-related asset metrics to demonstrate progress against ESG objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with enterprise architecture, service management, finance, security, workplace services, operations, and technology vendors to ensure cohesive asset management practices.
  • Translate business and technology requirements into HAM capabilities, processes, and governance controls.
  • Present asset management insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership, influencing strategic decisions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
