Contract Electronics Design Engineer
Contract: 3 months
Location: Bedfordshire, Commutable from Watford, Milton Keynes, and Northampton
IR35: Outside
About the client
A UK-based developer and manufacturer of electronic products, moving a design through compliance and into volume production.
The role
You will take ownership of an existing hardware design, review it against product and production requirements, and support it through compliance, validation, and production readiness.
Key responsibilities
- Audit the existing design in Altium, covering schematic, PCB layout, and component selection, ensuring it meets requirements and is suitable for production
- Support the compliance and lab validation programme, including lab testing, verification, compliance testing, and field testing
- Implement design changes needed to achieve compliance and meet requirements
- Optimise the BOM for production cost and the PCB for DFM
- Support review and validation of firmware
- Support prototype investigations and the design of new features for both the product and supporting production equipment

Required experience

- Proven electronics design experience taking products from prototype to production
- Strong Altium Designer skills (schematic and layout)
- Hands-on experience with EMC and safety compliance testing and remedial design changes
- BOM cost reduction and DFM experience
- Comfortable reviewing embedded firmware alongside hardware
Desirable
- Experience designing production test or support equipment
- Previous contract work in a fast-paced product development environment
