ScareCrow Intelligence Ltd is a UK AgriTech startup developing intelligent, automated solutions for early warning and proactive risk management in agriculture.
Our products combine IoT, environmental sensing, computer vision, AI and predictive analytics to help farmers identify risks earlier and make better decisions.
We are looking for a Part-Time Hardware Engineer
to join our small team and take ownership of hardware development across our products.
The Role
This is a practical, hands-on role suited to an engineer who enjoys taking hardware concepts from prototype through to reliable, field-ready systems. You will design, build, test and improve our hardware for real-world agricultural environments, working closely with our software team.
- Take ownership of the hardware development lifecycle, from initial concepts and prototyping through to testing, field deployment and iteration.
- Support field deployments, monitor hardware performance and troubleshoot issues in real-world environments.
- Coordinate with external suppliers, manufacturers and technical partners where required.

About You
We are looking for someone who is practical, curious and comfortable working in an early-stage startup environment. You should have experience with several of the following:
- Embedded systems and microcontrollers
- Electronics design and prototyping
- IoT devices and sensor integration
- PCB design and/or PCB assembly
- Camera and imaging hardware
- Battery and power management
- Solar-powered electronics
- Wireless communications such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa/LoRaWAN or cellular
- Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Arduino or similar platforms
- Electronics testing and troubleshooting
- 3D printing, CAD or enclosure design
Experience with remote monitoring systems would be particularly valuable.
You should also:
- Be comfortable working independently
- Hold a full UK driving licence and be able to travel to field sites when required

Working Arrangement
- Part-time: approximately 1–2 days per week
- Location: South of England, with flexibility for remote/hybrid working
- Some hands-on prototyping and occasional field visits will be required
- Flexible working arrangement suitable for an experienced engineer, consultant or contractor
