Senior Hardware Design & Testing Internship (Innsbruck & London)
About the Role
Successful applicants will divide their time between Innsbruck and London as follows:
Innsbruck: During the peak season (November – April), spend 3–4 months working from our office in Innsbruck, the capital of North Tyrol. Enjoy a company flat, easy access to Austrian snow sports resorts, and be responsible for:
- Supporting the Customer Success team to identify, debug, and analyse hardware issues on the slopes.
- Testing and reproducing hardware problems in real-world conditions.
London: Before and after the season (and year-round), relocate to our London HQ to:
- Optimise manufacturing processes for existing hardware.
- Test and validate future design iterations.
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Marketing teams.
- Engage across business areas through cross-functional projects.
Additional Duty:
- Occasional travel to Shenzhen, China (up to one month) based on business needs.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Craft test fixtures, prototype hardware, and manufacturing improvements as a design wizard.
- Conduct comprehensive hardware tests on Carv products to drive continuous improvement.
- Identify and diagnose production issues, working closely with factories for resolution.
- Train the Customer Success team in diagnosing on-slope hardware issues.
- Use Python and SQL to interact with databases, automate debugging, and enhance efficiency.
- Analyse data from returned hardware to pinpoint root causes and propose solutions.
- Oversee global prototype testing with our user base.
- Ski-test and debug prototypes in Innsbruck.

Requirements for Our Candidate

Academics or Experience:
- Expected to graduate in 2026 with a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering (or similar), coupled with strong academic performance or proven industry experience.
- Proven knowledge or real-world engineering experience required.

Core Skills & Traits:
- Strong grasp of mechanical and electrical fundamentals.
- Combines analytical rigor with intuitive engineering problem-solving.
- Autonomous and highly self-motivated in scenarios requiring independent learning or troubleshooting.
- Clear communication, empathy toward customers and colleagues.

- Nice-to-Have (Advantageous for Selection):
- Python/SQL or software development experience.
- Mechanical prototyping (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape, Creo).
- Basic to advanced workshop skills (hand tools, machine tools).
- Firmware development for microcontrollers (e.g., ESP32).
- IC evaluation and PCB testing experience.

Duration
- Internship length: 7–10 months (flexible based on aptitude/experience).
- Start date: Latest October 2027; possibility of an earlier start at the company’s discretion.
