Job Description: Electric Vehicle Charging Senior Security and Connectivity Engineer
Job Family Group: IT&S Group
Role Purpose
The Electric Vehicle charging Senior Security and Connectivity Engineer provides assurance and operational support of EV charging hardware security and the connectivity services used by field equipment. Working within the strategy, requirements, governance and priorities established, the postholder implements and supports reliable, secure and commercially sustainable connectivity of the installed estate.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical leadership across hardware security and connectivity solutions that support bp's EV charging estate.
- Assess and improve the security of EV charging hardware, embedded systems, battery systems, and connected technologies.
- Review supplier solutions and provide recommendations to address security or connectivity risks.
- Support the delivery and operation of cellular connectivity services used across charging infrastructure.
- Lead investigations into connectivity or security incidents and drive effective resolution.
- Define technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and assurance activities for new solutions.
- Support testing activities, including vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
- Evaluate connectivity technologies, including cellular, broadband, fibre, Ethernet, and wireless solutions.
- Work with suppliers and stakeholders to balance security, performance, reliability, cost, and operational needs.
- Maintain high-quality technical documentation, designs, and assurance records.
What We're Looking For
- A degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, cyber security, telecommunications, networking, software, electronics, or a related field.
- Experience designing, supporting, or securing connected devices, systems, or infrastructure.
- Knowledge of networking technologies such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and secure remote access.
- Experience working with cellular technologies and connectivity services.
- The ability to assess technical risks and communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating with suppliers, technology partners, and cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have
- Experience with EV charging infrastructure.
- Industrial or operational technology environments.
- PKI, certificate management, secure boot, or trusted hardware technologies.
- Vulnerability management, penetration testing, or security assurance.
- Enterprise or industrial networking.
- Familiarity with standards such as IEC 62443, ISO 27001, ETSI EN 303 645, or NIS2.
- Relevant cyber security, networking, or engineering certifications.

Future Location Notice
This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028. This presents an exciting opportunity for all employees and leaders to come together in one London location. The specific date of the move will be confirmed closer to the time.
