Hardware Staff Engineer

East Kilbride, Scotland (Onsite/Hybrid)

Your Impact

As a Hardware Staff Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership in the development of advanced monitoring, protection, recording, and analytics solutions used throughout electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution networks.

You will be a recognised technical expert responsible for leading the design and implementation of complex electronic hardware solutions. Working closely with Systems, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, Test, Manufacturing, and Product Management teams, you will solve challenging technical problems, guide design decisions, and ensure robust, high-quality products are delivered from concept through deployment and lifecycle support.

This role combines hands-on technical contribution with engineering leadership, requiring deep expertise in electronic design, strong problem-solving capability, and the ability to mentor and influence teams across multiple projects.

Here's where you'll demonstrate your proficiencies:

  • Lead the design and development of embedded electronic hardware for monitoring, protection, recording, and industrial instrumentation products.
  • Translate system and product requirements into robust hardware designs that meet performance, reliability, regulatory, manufacturing, and cost objectives.
  • Design, analyse, and review analogue, mixed-signal, digital, power, and communications circuitry for mission-critical industrial applications.
  • Collaborate closely with Architects, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Test teams to deliver integrated product solutions.
  • Drive technical investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for complex design, manufacturing, qualification, and field issues.
  • Perform technical trade-off analysis involving performance, accuracy, reliability, maintainability, manufacturability, lifecycle cost, and customer requirements.
  • Lead schematic design, component selection, circuit simulation, design verification, laboratory evaluation, and PCB design reviews.
  • Support architecture implementation by contributing technical expertise to system-level design decisions and product platform development.
  • Lead and contribute to technical design reviews, engineering governance activities, and development best practices.
  • Define and execute hardware verification, validation, qualification, and compliance testing activities.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, product enhancements, value engineering, and component obsolescence management.
  • Identify technical risks early, develop mitigation plans, and provide leadership during complex technical challenges.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
