Hardware Team Manager
Mansfield, Nottinghamshire | Full-time | Hybrid

We are looking for an experienced Hardware Team Manager to join our Engineering team based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop a team of talented engineers whilst playing a key role in the delivery of innovative electronic products used worldwide across power generation, industrial, and off-highway applications.
The Role
As a Hardware Team Manager, you will combine technical leadership with people management responsibilities, overseeing a segment of the engineering team involved in both new product development and the maintenance of existing product ranges. Working within a matrix engineering structure, you will collaborate closely with Project Managers and Engineering Leaders to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards, on time and within budget.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and line managing a team of Hardware Engineers across multiple locations, including remote and hybrid team members
- Conducting regular 1:1 meetings, performance reviews, objective setting, and personal development planning
- Managing team workload, resource allocation, holiday approvals, and sickness reviews
- Collaborating with Project Managers to define technical requirements, estimate project tasks, and support project planning activities
- Allocating and tracking engineering activities using Jira or similar task management tools
- Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to engineers at all levels
- Reviewing engineering designs and outputs to ensure high levels of quality and technical compliance
- Supporting feasibility studies, cost estimates, and technical evaluations during project inception
- Contributing to technical decision-making and hardware architecture strategy
- Driving continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and development practices
- Supporting internal stakeholders by providing technical expertise and guidance
- Maintaining engineering systems, issue management processes, and revision control practices
- Working closely with Engineering Managers and Team Leaders to ensure consistency across engineering disciplines
- Monitoring departmental KPIs and supporting improvement initiatives where required
- Contributing hands-on technical engineering support where appropriate

About You
We're looking for an experienced engineering professional who combines strong technical capability with excellent leadership and people management skills. You will have:
- A strong understanding of electronic and electrical engineering principles
- Significant experience in analogue and digital circuit design
- Extensive experience in PCB design and manufacture, including Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA)
- Experience using Altium Designer or equivalent PCB design software
- Strong knowledge of EMC design, testing, and certification requirements
- Experience working with electrical safety standards, including EN 61010-1
- Previous experience leading or managing engineering teams
- Experience managing remote, hybrid, and multi-site engineering teams
- Experience using task and issue management tools such as Jira or Redmine
- Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
- Experience running stand-up meetings and supporting engineering project delivery
- Strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to motivate, mentor, and develop engineers whilst maintaining high performance standards
- A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement

Qualifications
- HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent experience in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Previous experience in a technical leadership or engineering management role is highly desirable
