Jack's Patch Garden Centre is a locally focused destination offering plants, gardening supplies, and a welcoming restaurant experience for visitors. Role Description

The Head Chef is a full-time, on-site role based at Jack's Patch Garden Centre in Kirton In Lindsey. The Head Chef will lead the kitchen operation, planning menus, preparing high-quality dishes, and ensuring consistent presentation and portion control. Responsibilities include:

The role involves:

  • Supervising and training kitchen team members
  • Organizing daily prep
  • Coordinating service during busy periods
  • Collaborating with management to design seasonal menus that reflect the garden centre’s identity

The Head Chef will also be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a clean, efficient kitchen
  • Implementing health and safety procedures
  • Supporting a positive, respectful working environment

Qualifications

  • Strong culinary skills, with proven experience as a Head Chef or senior chef in a café, restaurant, or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of menu planning, recipe development, and portion control, ideally with experience using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage kitchen operations, including stock control, ordering, and cost management.
  • Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene regulations, and health and safety practices, with relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Food Hygiene Level 2 or 3).
  • Experience leading and training kitchen staff, fostering teamwork, and maintaining a professional, inclusive workplace.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work efficiently during peak service times.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and peak trading periods as required by the garden centre’s operating schedule.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with front-of-house and management teams.
  • Previous experience in a garden centre, café, or similar hospitality environment is an advantage but not essential.
