Role Description

The Head Chef is a full-time, on-site role based at Garvock House Hotel in Dunfermline. This position leads the kitchen team in planning, preparing, and presenting high-quality dishes for restaurant service, events, and special functions. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The Head Chef will:

  • Schedule and train kitchen staff
  • Coordinate with front-of-house teams
  • Manage supplier relationships
  • Control food costs and waste
  • Introduce seasonal dishes
  • Accommodate dietary requirements
  • Support a positive, collaborative working environment

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a hotel, restaurant, or similar hospitality environment.
  • Strong skills in menu planning, recipe development, and presentation of dishes across à la carte, banqueting, and special events.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety standards, kitchen hygiene, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a diverse kitchen team, with effective communication and people management skills.
  • Proven capability in stock control, ordering, supplier liaison, and managing food cost and waste.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by hotel operations.
  • Formal culinary training or relevant professional certification is highly beneficial.
  • Commitment to high customer service standards and a passion for creating a memorable dining experience.
