We’re looking for a Head Chef to take the lead in the kitchen at The Grandstand in Hereford, a lively Hungry Horse pub where there’s always something going on!
From family meals and big groups to match-day crowds and busy weekends, The Grandstand is all about great food, great value and a great atmosphere.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate chef who loves the buzz of a busy kitchen, enjoys leading a team and is ready to take ownership of their own kitchen operation.
Job Description
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, from delivering great food and maintaining high standards to managing your team, controlling costs and ensuring every service runs smoothly.
The Grandstand is a busy Hungry Horse pub, serving a wide range of guests throughout the week. You’ll need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, leading from the front and keeping your team motivated when the pressure is on.
You’ll have the autonomy to run your kitchen, develop your team and play a key part in the success of the pub.
What you'll be doing
As Head Chef, you’ll be at the heart of the kitchen, leading your team and making sure every plate leaving the pass is spot on.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading, motivating and developing your kitchen team
- Taking ownership of kitchen standards, food quality and presentation
- Managing stock, ordering and food costs
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety standards
- Planning and organising the kitchen to deliver great service during busy periods
- Coaching your team and supporting their development
- Making sure every guest gets the quality and consistency they expect from Hungry Horse
- Working closely with the General Manager to drive the success of the kitchen and the wider pub
- Ensuring all kitchen procedures, health & safety and food hygiene standards are followed
- Managing kitchen rotas and ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time

Qualifications
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience working in a busy kitchen environment
- Is confident leading and developing a team
- Understands kitchen management, food safety and GP
- Can keep calm and organised when the pressure is on
- Takes pride in delivering consistently great food
- Has the energy, passion and personality to bring a kitchen team together
- Is commercially aware and understands the importance of managing costs and stock
- Leads by example and isn't afraid to get stuck in
- Is passionate about developing people and creating a positive kitchen culture
