Role Description
The Head Code Coach is a casual, part-time, on-site role based in Ashby-De-La-Zouch and surrounding areas, leading the delivery of coding and computing after school clubs across local schools. In this role, the Head Code Coach plans and delivers engaging lessons and activities, using Jam Coding’s structured programmes and resources to build digital confidence and problem-solving skills in children.

Responsibilities during clubs include:

- Teaching sessions in schools
- Managing classroom behaviour
- Adapting content for different ages and abilities
- Ensuring all activities are safe, inclusive, and aligned with the needs of the school
The Head Code Coach supports and mentors other assistant code coaches, coordinates with school staff and parents, and provides feedback on learner progress and session outcomes. The role also involves preparing equipment and materials, maintaining safeguarding standards, and representing Jam Coding in a professional and positive manner.
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of computing and coding is desirable, however full training will be provided.
- Demonstrated teaching, coaching, or youth leadership experience, ideally in primary education or extracurricular clubs.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to children of varying abilities.
- Proven classroom or group management skills, including creating an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment.
- Ability to plan, organise, and deliver structured sessions, adapting lesson plans to different group sizes and learning needs.
- Comfort working closely with schools and parents, including providing updates on learner progress and responding to questions professionally.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection; enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain) is essential.
- Enthusiasm for inspiring children, a passion for digital education, and a patient, encouraging coaching style.
- This role will require you to have a driver’s license and access to a car in order to transport equipment to schools in and around Ashby-De-La-Zouch.
