Llandrindod Wells Golf Club is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, and committed Head Greenkeeper to lead the maintenance and development of our golf course.

Set in the heart of Mid Wales, the Club is entering an exciting period of investment and development, with a clear focus on improving the course, facilities and overall experience for members and visitors.

We are looking for someone who can take pride in the presentation of the course, lead a dedicated greenkeeping team, and work closely with the Club Committee to develop and maintain high standards across the course.

This is more than a course-maintenance position. We are looking for someone who wants to take ownership, bring ideas to the table and help shape the future of the golf course.

The Club is entering an important period of investment and development, creating an opportunity for the right individual to make a lasting contribution to the course, the Club and its members.

Working closely with the Club Committee, the Head Greenkeeper will have responsibility for:

  • The overall presentation and condition of the golf course
  • Leading and developing the greenkeeping team
  • Establishing and implementing effective maintenance programmes
  • Turf management and course preparation
  • Machinery and equipment management
  • Course improvement and development projects
  • Preparing the course for competitions and events
  • Managing resources and agreed maintenance budgets
  • Advising the Committee on agronomic and course-management matters
  • Maintaining appropriate health, safety and environmental standards

Who We're Looking For

We would particularly welcome applications from an experienced Head Greenkeeper or Deputy Head Greenkeeper looking for the opportunity to take greater responsibility.

You Should Have

  • Strong practical experience in golf-course greenkeeping
  • Sound knowledge of modern turf-management practices
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • A practical, hands-on approach
  • The confidence to make recommendations and introduce improvements
  • Pride in producing a well-presented and enjoyable golf course
  • The ability to work positively with members, visitors, volunteers and the Club Committee

Relevant Greenkeeping And Turf-management Qualifications Are Desirable.

Key Qualifications & Certifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent, such as SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Phase 3/4).
  • PA1, PA2, and PA6 Pesticide Application Certificates (safe handling and operation of boom/knapsack sprayers).
  • Chainsaw Operator Certification (CS30/CS31 or NPTC equivalents for tree management and clearance).
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) certification.
  • Full, clean driving license (including trailer entitlement where required).

Professional Experience & Skills

Leadership & Team Management

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory or Deputy Head Greenskeeper role, managing daily task allocation, staff development, and scheduling.

Turf & Soil Science Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, grass species, turf diseases, integrated pest management (IPM), and irrigation systems.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Experience managing operational budgets, procuring materials, and scheduling preventive maintenance for machinery fleets.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Proven track record of enforcing COSHH regulations, risk assessments, and safe working practices across the site.

Machinery Maintenance

  • Practical knowledge of grinding, mower setup, and minor mechanical repairs.
