Colne Valley Golf Club - Essex - South East
Managerial - Greenkeeper
6 September 2026
Colne Valley Golf Club is a family-run club founded in 1991, set within 155 acres of parkland beside the River Colne. Based in Earls Colne, near Colchester, the club has around 450 active members, a strong society and green-fee customer base, and a growing reputation for hosting county and regional events, including Essex Golf County fixtures and this year’s Race to Woodhall Spa South East qualifier.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated Head Greenkeeper to play a key role in maintaining and improving our course to a high standard. The successful candidate will help enhance the quality, presentation, and long-term condition of our parkland course, while delivering an excellent golfing experience for members, visitors, and societies.
In 2021, the club invested in new greenkeeping facilities, including a spacious workshop with grinding equipment, a lift, and additional resources to support our full-time mechanic. Our machinery fleet includes a range of manufacturers, chosen to suit the course’s needs rather than a specific brand preference.
We are seeking someone with at least five years’ greenkeeping experience in a deputy or senior supervisory role. Applicants should ideally have experience with machinery maintenance and irrigation systems, along with relevant spraying and chainsaw certificates.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
