Senior Actuary – Reinsurance Pricing (Mortality), UK & Ireland

About the Role
In this high-impact, client-facing role, you will play a leading role in shaping reinsurance solutions across the UK & Ireland protection market.
Apply your technical actuarial and modelling expertise across new business pricing, portfolio monitoring, and strategic initiatives. Collaborate closely with clients and senior colleagues within Swiss Re’s global network.
This line management role involves three direct reports and positions you for growing commercial exposure, influencing pricing, portfolio performance and market strategy. You will also represent Swiss Re externally, contributing to client interactions and industry events.
Main responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with pricing and reinsurance teams, acting as a trusted partner for new business and portfolio monitoring.
- Lead the development and management of Terms of Trade for life & health protection products (individual and group mortality) in the UK & Ireland.
- Own robust pricing assumptions, ensuring alignment with portfolio experience and market strategy through evidence-based analysis.
- Lead pricing of traditional reinsurance tenders for new and established products, with sign-off authority within agreed limits.
- Collaborate with clients on pricing and product development opportunities, providing commercial insight and tailored solutions.
- Share accountability for the UK & Ireland in-force portfolio, overseeing rate reviews, recaptures, benefit changes and portfolio optimisation.
- Monitor mortality portfolio performance, delivering regular reports to senior stakeholders and identifying key risks and opportunities.
- Represent the Market Unit as mortality portfolio owner in Swiss Re’s global forums, influencing pricing, portfolio, and market strategies.
- Lead and develop a small team, fostering high-quality delivery and performance culture.

About the Team
Based in London, our Life & Health pricing team covers reinsurance pricing, in-force portfolio management, and performance monitoring across UK & Ireland markets. We work collaboratively with client management, underwriting, claims, and reporting teams to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach.

About You
Qualified actuary (FIA/FFA/FSA or equivalent) with several years’ post-qualification experience.
Key requirements:
- Proven expertise in Life & Health (re)insurance markets, products and trends, with specific focus on mortality pricing (cross-line experience advantageous).
- In-depth understanding of mortality risk, modelling and analysis, including concepts and frameworks for mortality improvement.
- Strong background in statistical and actuarial modelling techniques, including modern data analytics tools.
- Proficiency with Python, R, and Power BI, including DAX/PowerPivot.
- Strong communication and influencing skills to engage effectively with clients, internal stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Experienced in client-facing environments.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities, delivering high-quality results.
- Sound judgement and decision-making under ambition.

Compensation & Work Model
Base salary: £92,000 - £138,000 (full-time), determined by:
- Role requirements, scope, complexity, and responsibilities
- Applicant’s qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience
Performance-based variable compensation and extensive benefits complement base pay.
Eligibility varies based on Swiss Re policies and contract terms.
Hybrid work model – at least three days per week office-based.
