Purpose and Role

Provide leadership in the delivery of the Advanced Manufacturing Technical Excellence College (AMTEC), ensuring alignment with the Department for Education’s Technical Excellence College (TEC) programme priorities.

  • Lead the implementation, coordination, and performance management of AMTEC activity across the College and partner network, ensuring delivery against agreed objectives, KPIs, and contractual requirements.
  • Enable the effective translation of strategic priorities into high-quality operational delivery, supporting innovation, employer engagement, and measurable impact on skills, productivity, and technical education.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, Further and Higher Education partners, and employers to ensure AMTEC delivers a high-performing, employer-led technical education model aligned to regional and national need.
  • Support the Assistant Principal in ensuring AMTEC contributes to the College’s strategic priorities, growth ambitions, and reputation as a leader within the TEC network.

Being part of the College Leadership Team

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the College Strategy and role model a visible, values-driven leadership that promotes trust, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present clear, timely papers and reports to support effective and informed decision-making. Share information where requested and appropriate for other key stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets proactively in line with financial regulations, ensuring value for money and contributing to income generation and capital investment, where appropriate.
  • Deputise for Executive Management Team members, attending meetings and representing the College in key activities as required.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

Delivery of the Technical Excellence College (AMTEC)

  • Lead the implementation and delivery of AMTEC as a Technical Excellence College, ensuring alignment with national policy, productivity goals, and sector priorities.
  • Translate strategic objectives into clear operational and delivery plans, enabling effective coordination across internal teams and external partners.
  • Ensure delivery meets Department for Education (DfE) expectations, including employer co-design, innovative delivery models, and demonstrable impact on skills development.
  • Oversee operational governance arrangements, ensuring compliance with funding requirements, contractual obligations, and reporting standards.
  • Ensure AMTEC activity aligns with College policies, procedures, and strategic priorities.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Provide effective operational leadership across AMTEC activity, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including curriculum, quality, business development, and support services, to ensure coordinated delivery.
  • Collaborate with partners, stakeholders, and related strategic initiatives to ensure alignment and maximize synergy.
  • Chair and coordinate relevant operational groups to drive delivery against agreed objectives.
  • Represent AMTEC in appropriate forums, supporting the promotion and advancement of its objectives.
  • Attend relevant operational and strategic meetings, providing updates on progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate governance structures, meeting cycles, and reporting mechanisms are in place and operating effectively.

Partnership Coordination and Employer Engagement

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers, education partners, and key stakeholders to support the delivery of AMTEC objectives.
  • Coordinate partner activity across the AMTEC network, ensuring consistency, collaboration, and shared accountability for outcomes.
  • Support employer engagement to ensure provision reflects current and future workforce needs.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable partnerships that strengthen skills pipelines, workforce development, and regional economic growth.

Performance and Compliance

  • Lead the management of AMTEC delivery, ensuring strong performance against KPIs, milestones, and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and maintain robust monitoring, reporting, and evaluation frameworks to track progress, quality, and impact.
  • Coordinate data collection and reporting from partners, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness, and produce reports including performance updates and self-assessment documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, funding requirements, and College quality assurance cycles.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum and quality teams to support the delivery of high-quality, industry-aligned provision.
  • Ensure operational delivery reflects emerging technologies, industry standards, and future skills needs within advanced manufacturing.
  • Ensure AMTEC activity demonstrates measurable impact on learner outcomes, employer satisfaction, and regional productivity.

Growth and Further Development

  • Identify opportunities for the growth and development of AMTEC provision, informed by regional and national intelligence.
  • Support the Assistant Principal in delivering growth strategies aligned to Technical Excellence College (TEC) objectives and funding opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of employer-led projects and contracts that address skills needs and drive measurable impact.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ensure staff as well as visitors and contractors understand and consistently apply Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity measures to ensure a healthy, sustainable, and productive learning environment is consistently maintained.
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by your Line Manager.
