The Role
As Head of Engineering – Advanced Sensing, you will lead the engineering function responsible for the development, delivery, and lifecycle management of ONYX Insight's hardware and sensing technologies. This role provides leadership across product development, hardware engineering, embedded software, product support and engineering processes, ensuring the business delivers reliable, scalable and commercially successful products to a global customer base. You will be responsible for translating product strategy and roadmap objectives into engineering execution, balancing innovation with operational excellence. Working closely with Product Management, Quality, Supply Chain, Monitoring, Delivery and Commercial teams, you will ensure products are developed, validated, released and supported in line with business objectives. The role combines technical leadership, people leadership and operational ownership, helping to scale the Advanced Sensing business while maintaining high standards of engineering quality, safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead, develop and grow the Advanced Sensing Engineering function, creating a high-performing and collaborative engineering culture.
- Set team objectives, priorities and resource plans aligned to business goals.
- Recruit, develop and retain engineering talent across hardware, embedded software and product support disciplines.
Product Development & Delivery
- Own the delivery of Advanced Sensing engineering activities, ensuring new products and enhancements are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Drive effective engineering planning, prioritisation and execution across the product portfolio.
- Support the development and adoption of new technologies and engineering solutions.

Product Lifecycle Management
- Provide leadership across the full product lifecycle, from concept and development through to deployment, support and continuous improvement.
- Ensure robust testing, validation, certification and change control processes are maintained.
- Drive product reliability improvements through effective investigation and resolution of technical issues.
Stakeholder & Commercial Engagement
- Collaborate with Product Management, Commercial, Delivery and Customer-facing teams to translate market and customer requirements into engineering outcomes.
- Represent Engineering in strategic customer, partner and business discussions where required.
- Support delivery of Advanced Sensing business objectives through effective cross-functional leadership.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Proven track record delivering hardware or technology products from concept to market.
- Experience managing teams across product development, systems engineering, electronics, embedded software or industrial technology environments.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance innovation, cost, quality and delivery.
- Experience implementing engineering processes, governance and performance management frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
- Knowledge of product certification, compliance and quality systems.
- Experience supporting products deployed in industrial, energy or renewable energy environments.
- Understanding of manufacturing scale-up and supplier management.
