Head of Agent Architecture
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Agent Architecture based in United Kingdom.
This is a senior, player-coach leadership role shaping how AI agents are designed, evaluated, and deployed across a next-generation creative technology platform.
You’ll define the technical vision for agent architecture, including multi-agent workflows, task decomposition, state management, tool use, and evaluation systems.
Alongside setting strategy, you’ll stay hands-on with the most challenging architectural problems and establish standards that allow the function to scale.
You’ll build and lead a small team of Agent Architects, developing both their technical capabilities and their ability to solve complex client problems.
The role also has a strong client-facing dimension, with responsibility for strategic discovery and translating ambiguous business and creative challenges into robust technical solutions.
You’ll work across AI Engineering, Product, Sales, and client leadership to balance quality, reliability, cost, latency, and scalability.
This is an opportunity to help define the infrastructure, practices, and people shaping how AI-powered advertising is created at scale.
Accountabilities
- Define the technical vision and roadmap for agent architecture, covering multi-agent workflows, task decomposition, state management, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation, API integrations, and related patterns.
- Establish architectural standards and make strategic decisions about what should become reusable platform capabilities versus bespoke solutions for individual clients.
- Design and maintain reusable agents, prompt libraries, orchestration patterns, and frameworks capable of supporting thousands of brands with distinct requirements and voices.
- Lead the systematic evaluation and optimization of agent performance, establishing benchmarking, experimentation, and evaluation practices that make quality measurable and continuously improve system reliability.
- Hire, mentor, and manage a small team of Agent Architects, setting a high technical bar, providing ongoing feedback, and supporting their professional development.
- Partner closely with AI Engineering, Product, Sales, and client leadership to determine when problems are best addressed through prompting, RAG, fine-tuning, orchestration, or other technical approaches.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex client deployments and personally lead discovery for the highest-priority engagements.
- Translate ambiguous customer and creative briefs into clearly scoped, buildable agent workflows while communicating architectural trade-offs around cost, latency, reliability, and quality.
- Represent agent technology with senior client and agency stakeholders, explaining complex technical concepts and system limitations in clear, accessible language.
- Establish success measures around workflow reliability, architectural efficiency, brand alignment, adoption, client deployment success, stakeholder trust, and team growth.
- Develop the team’s ability to independently lead client engagements, ensuring the function can scale without depending on your direct involvement in every project.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements
- 8+ years of direct experience working with Generative AI, with deep technical fluency across large language models such as GPT, Claude, or Gemini and multimodal generative models for imagery and video.
- 2+ years of experience managing people or leading a technical function, with a demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and motivate technical professionals or own a roadmap with significant stakeholder responsibility.
- Strong systems-thinking skills, including a sophisticated understanding of context windows, agent interactions, task decomposition, state management, tool use, and how outputs from one component become inputs for another.
- Strong technical literacy, including comfort working with Python, JSON structures, APIs, and technical documentation. Experience with agent orchestration patterns is more important than expertise in any particular framework.
- Demonstrated experience creating or operating evaluation, benchmarking, A/B testing, or other measurement frameworks for AI systems. You believe AI behavior should be measured before it is shipped.
- Proven strategic leadership skills, with the ability to establish a technical direction, gain senior leadership buy-in, and hold a team accountable for delivering against it.
- Experience leading technical discovery with senior customers or stakeholders and translating ambiguous requirements into practical technical solutions. Backgrounds in solutions architecture, forward-deployed engineering, or technical consulting are highly relevant.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain agent failure modes, evaluation results, and architectural trade-offs to non-technical senior stakeholders without unnecessary jargon.
- Ability to bridge technical and creative disciplines, translating subjective creative direction into concrete system requirements and helping technical teams understand the needs of creative professionals.
- Comfortable acting as the face of AI technology in strategic client conversations while remaining hands-on with complex technical challenges.
- A problem-solving mindset and genuine curiosity about AI behavior, including the ability to approach hallucinations, inconsistencies, and other agent failures as systems problems to understand and solve.
- Strong interest in building scalable infrastructure, technical standards, and high-performing teams that can support increasingly sophisticated AI applications.
