The Clinical Outcomes Unit at The Christie

The Clinical Outcomes Unit at The Christie is being refreshed as part of the Trust's Future Christie Programme, guided by our Chief Data Officer (CDO) and Chief Clinical Data Officer (CCDO), and shaped by the new Single Data Platform Programme (JAC). The Head of Analytics plays a key role within the Unit's leadership team, working closely with our Data Engineering and Information Governance colleagues to provide analytical expertise that supports our clinical community.

At its heart, this is about developing best in class cancer services and driving population health, using AI to turn data into insight that supports better clinical outcomes for our patients. The role will manage our Data Science, Analyst and Statistician functions, delivering our reporting commitments whilst pushing forward developments that use real-world data to inform decisions and support new studies.

This is where information becomes knowledge, and a genuine opportunity to use data to drive the aims of our expert technical teams as we build a modern, cloud-based platform for the Trust. We're looking for a highly competent data expert, with experience across the complexities of enterprise clinical data, its governance and quality, able to shape assured, repeatable outputs across the whole team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Unit needs a leader who can coach and bring the best out of its excellent staff day to day, building a positive learning culture where people are proud of what they achieve.

Above all, this role is about developing an insight-led organisation, one that turns data into evidence our clinicians and teams can act on. The Head of Analytics will take a leading role in overseeing service development, with excellent knowledge of NHS reporting requirements and how these will evolve under the Single Data Platform Programme.

Supporting clinical trials and improving outcomes for the patients on them is part of the role. But it's about far more than that. It's about helping improve the organisation as a whole, supporting neighbourhood oncology and care closer to home, in line with the three shifts (hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention).

The post holder will oversee analysis and reporting to publication standard where needed, with day to day work involving close collaboration with lead clinicians, academic partners, the CDO and CCDO's wider teams, and clinical groups.

We're looking for someone who can deliver objectives to the highest standard, keep programmes of work closely managed, and communicate well enough to engage staff at all levels through a period of significant change.
