Established in 2011, Petroineos is one of Europe’s leading integrated energy trading companies, with activities spanning crude oil, refined products, logistics and downstream supply.
PetroChina International is the international trading arm of PetroChina Company Ltd the publicly listed subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corporation “CNPC”, one of the world’s largest global integrated energy and commodity trading companies. Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Beijing, PetroChina International operates across 20+ countries, with key trading hubs in London, Houston and Singapore.
The Company’s trading activities encompass more than 100 kinds of products across global energy and commodity market. Through merger, acquisition, investment and equity participation, several business centres have been formed and integrated with storage facilities, refining capabilities, oil tanks and terminals as well as transportation capabilities in global main energy producing areas. All these investments provide strong support for the steady development of the Company’s international businesses.

Who You Are / Your Next Challenge
To support our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced analytics leader to join as our Head of Analytics, Oil, responsible for shaping and developing our Crude Oil and Refined Products the analytics capability.
This is a senior front-office leadership role based in our London, Charing Cross office, with significant accountability for market intelligence, forecasting, strategic market direction and commercial insight across the global oil value chain. Acting as the primary analytical partner to Trading Managers, Originators and senior leadership, you will play a critical role in helping the business identify opportunities, challenge consensus views and make informed, data-driven commercial decisions.
Leading a team of up to 6 analysts covering global crude oil and refined products markets, you will be responsible for developing analytical capability, strengthening commercial engagement with the trading business and ensuring market intelligence remains aligned to the organisation's strategic objectives.
This role will report into the SVP, Low Carbon Solutions and Refined Products / Chief Commercial Officer and offers a unique opportunity to influence both short-term trading performance and longer-term strategic growth ambitions, combining leadership of the Oil Analytics function with responsibility for market outlook development, macroeconomic strategy, forecasting capability and analytical excellence across the organisation.

Current State of Play
Analytics is already recognised as a key contributor to commercial decision-making across both Petroineos and PetroChina International's global trading activities, providing market intelligence and strategic insight across Oil and Low Carbon Solutions.
As the business continues to evolve, we have established dedicated leadership for our commodity analytics franchises through two peer-level roles:
- Head of Analytics, Oil (Crude Oil & Refined Products) - Hiring
- Head of Analytics, Low Carbon Solutions (Natural Gas, LNG, Power & Carbon)
This structure provides greater market focus, stronger commercial alignment and enhanced support for Trading, Origination and Business Development activities. Together, these functions support regional and global stakeholders across London, Lavera and Beijing, ensuring market intelligence and analytical perspectives remain aligned across the wider business.
Vision for 2026 and Beyond
Our ambition is to build a market-leading analytics capability that combines deep fundamental expertise, quantitative modelling, advanced data analytics and AI-enabled solutions to drive competitive advantage across global commodity markets.
As Head of Analytics, Oil, you will play a central role in delivering this vision by strengthening our analytical frameworks, enhancing forecasting capability, developing future analytical talent and ensuring analytics remains fully integrated with trading, optimisation, business development and investment activities. You will help drive greater alignment between Analytics, Trading, Origination and Business Development functions, ensuring analytical insight is translated into commercially actionable outcomes.
Working closely with Quantitative Analytics, Data Analytics and Advanced Modelling teams, you will also support the continued evolution of analytical frameworks, forecasting methodologies and AI-enabled capabilities, helping to establish a best-in-class analytics function that supports decision-making across the full trading and optimisation lifecycle.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the Oil Analytics franchise and establish a best-in-class analytical capability that delivers measurable commercial value across one of the world's largest commodity trading organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Oil Analytics Function - Lead and develop the Crude Oil & Refined Products Analytics function, managing a team of analysts and fostering a high-performance analytical culture.
- Lead Market & Macro Strategy - Develop long-term market outlooks, forecasts and strategic market views across global crude oil and refined products markets. Lead macroeconomic analysis and market strategy, translating economic, geopolitical and market developments into actionable commercial insights.
- Lead Business Development & Origination Support - Support Trading, Origination and Business Development activities through market intelligence, scenario analysis and commercial recommendations.
- Drive Cross-Commodity & Global Alignment - Drive collaboration and alignment across regional teams and stakeholders in London, Lavera and Beijing, ensuring consistency of market views and analytical output.
- Champion Analytics, Technology & AI Adoption - Work closely with Quantitative Analytics, Data Analytics and Advanced Modelling teams to enhance forecasting capability, analytical frameworks and the practical application of data, technology and AI solutions across the Oil Analytics function.

What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role
- Significant experience in a senior analytics, research, market intelligence or commercial strategy role ideally within a trading house, oil major, energy or commodity markets.
- Deep expertise across global Crude Oil and Refined Products markets is essential, including supply-demand fundamentals, trade flows, pricing mechanisms and refining economics.
- Proven leadership experience managing, coaching and developing high-performing analytical teams.
- Strong understanding of physical commodity trading, optimisation, market risk and the role analytics plays in driving commercial performance.
- Demonstrated ability to influence trading decisions, market strategy and business growth through data-driven insight and market intelligence.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex market dynamics into actionable commercial recommendations.
- Experience collaborating with quantitative, modelling and data analytics teams to enhance forecasting capability and analytical effectiveness.
- Commercially minded, intellectually curious and comfortable operating within a fast-paced, highly dynamic trading environment.
- Resilient, highly accountable and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, competitive trading environment.
- Strong problem‑solving capability, with the drive to see issues through to resolution in a 24/7 operational context.
- Previous experience in roles with material responsibility for revenue generation and P&L impact.
Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position with the job based in London, Charring Cross, UK. The role is available to be worked in a hybrid capacity of 4 days in the office / 1 day from home.
