Group Engineering Director

The role

As Head of Architecture at Rightmove, you'll shape our technology strategy and help turn our mission, "to give everyone the belief they can make their move", into a well-designed, scalable technology estate.

You'll guide how we evolve a broad set of systems, from in-house software to third-party solutions, within a modern, containerised, event-driven architecture. You will be at the forefront of Rightmove’s journey into AI as it transforms not just the software we build but the way we build it. It's a chance to influence the technical direction of the UK's leading property portal, with real impact on millions of home movers.

Key responsibilities

In your first year, you'll focus on:

  • Setting architecture strategy - Build and drive a company-wide architecture strategy that supports our broader business goals.
  • Enabling engineering teams - Work closely with the software engineering community so the strategy is understood and all 40+ teams can make good architectural decisions quickly, without unnecessary process or delay.
  • Leading the architecture team - Manage and develop a team of seven architects who influence and advise on design across the organisation.
  • Partnering with data - Support the data and analytics department so our data platform architecture aligns with the wider platform architecture.

Ongoing responsibilities also include:

  • Overseeing a varied technology landscape of in-house software and third-party applications to create a cohesive ecosystem.
  • Work with technology and product leaders to connect architecture decisions to business objectives.
  • Influencing TCO by aligning architectural decisions with business outcomes in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
