The Head of Audience & Subscriptions will oversee print circulation operations, subscriber retention, revenue optimization, and churn reduction while driving data-informed audience growth initiatives across multiple channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage all aspects of print and digital circulation strategy for a large consumer-focused publication, with accountability for subscriber acquisition, retention, renewal performance, circulation growth, and audience engagement.
- Develop and execute audience growth strategies that increase paid and qualified circulation, optimize subscriber lifetime value (LTV), reduce churn, and improve overall circulation profitability.
- Utilize audience, subscription, and engagement data to make informed decisions that drive acquisition, retention, conversion, and revenue growth across multiple channels.
- Plan and execute subscriber acquisition, renewal, win-back, and retention campaigns using segmentation, behavioral targeting, lifecycle marketing, and data-driven personalization strategies.
- Build and optimize subscriber lifecycle programs from initial conversion through onboarding, engagement, renewal, gifts, reactivation, and long-term retention.
- Develop test plans, trial offers, pricing strategies, promotional packages, and conversion optimization initiatives. Continuously measure performance and apply a disciplined test-and-learn approach to improve response rates, retention, and ROI.
- Monitor and optimize key circulation and subscription metrics including subscriber growth, renewal rates, churn, engagement, customer acquisition cost (CAC), lifetime value (LTV), conversion rates, and subscription revenue.
- Own subscription revenue performance and circulation economics, including forecasting acquisition and retention results, monitoring profitability, and identifying opportunities to improve yield and operational efficiency.
- Develop annual circulation forecasts, budgets, reporting, and performance analysis. Present recommendations and results to senior leadership based on measurable business outcomes.
- Oversee all print circulation operations including fulfillment, production schedules, print order management, subscriber services, shipping, postal optimization, and newsstand distribution.
- Manage relationships with fulfillment houses, printers, direct mail agencies, newsstand consultants, digital marketing partners, distribution vendors, and other third-party suppliers to ensure operational excellence and cost efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with circulation reporting requirements, privacy regulations, subscription policies, and postal regulations. Manage relationships with audit organizations and maintain the integrity of subscriber data.
- Conduct competitive analysis and market research to identify audience trends, emerging technologies, subscription best practices, and growth opportunities that keep the publication ahead of the market.
- Monitor email deliverability and optimize subscriber communications to improve inbox placement, open rates, click-through rates, engagement, retention, and conversion performance.
- Develop and execute integrated audience development strategies that grow readership and drive traffic and engagement across print, digital, email, social media, events, newsletters, and advertiser-supported content programs.
- Partner closely with editorial, sales, product, analytics, and marketing teams to align audience growth initiatives with broader business, content, and revenue goals.
- Leverage advanced audience segmentation, cohort analysis, retention modeling, and performance reporting to identify opportunities for growth, improve subscriber experiences, and support strategic decision-making.
- Continuously evaluate new channels, technologies, partnerships, and marketing opportunities to expand audience reach, improve subscription performance, and strengthen long-term customer relationships.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
