Head of Building Safety & Compliance

Location: North London
Salary: £75,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent

MMP Consultancy is partnering with a Housing Association in North London to recruit an experienced Head of Building Safety & Compliance.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the organisation meets its statutory obligations across building safety and compliance, while delivering safe homes and services for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Building Safety & Compliance function across the organisation.
  • Oversee compliance programmes including Fire, Gas, Electrical, Asbestos, Water Hygiene, and Lift Safety.
  • Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, and all relevant legislation.
  • Manage compliance contractors, remedial works, and major service contracts.
  • Lead relationships with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets, procurement activities, and contract performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and maintain a strong compliance culture.

Essential Requirements

  • Senior leadership experience within Housing, Property, Asset Management, or a related sector.
  • Strong knowledge of building safety, fire safety, and statutory compliance.
  • Detailed understanding of the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Act.
  • Experience managing large-scale compliance programmes and contractors.
  • Proven track record of regulatory engagement and audit readiness.
  • Strong stakeholder management, leadership, and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Professional membership such as CMIOSH, MCIOB, MRICS, MIFSM, or IWFM.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, Property, or Health & Safety.
  • Experience within the Social Housing sector.
