We provide exceptional care and support to people living with, or affected by, life-limiting illness. As we look to the future, we have ambitious plans to grow our income, strengthen our financial sustainability and continue investing in innovative, world-class hospice care for generations to come.
The opportunity:
We are seeking an exceptional Head of Business Development to lead our ambitious income generation strategy and drive sustainable growth.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Business Development, you’ll provide strategic leadership to the Business Development function, inspiring a talented team, building high-value partnerships and identifying new opportunities for growth.

What you'll be doing:
- Lead and deliver an ambitious, organisation-wide Business Development and Income Strategy, driving year-on-year growth.
- Develop new commercial and voluntary income opportunities and identify innovative ways to diversify revenue.
- Build and nurture influential relationships with high-net-worth individuals, corporate partners, trusts and foundations, including those capable of making significant five- to seven-figure gifts.
- Lead capital fundraising strategies to support major organisational projects.
- Use market intelligence, supporter insight and emerging trends to develop compelling propositions and maintain competitive advantage.
- Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing Business Development team, creating a culture of ambition, innovation and accountability.
- Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Trustees and senior stakeholders to shape and deliver strategic opportunities.
- Drive performance through effective use of data, technology, CRM and commercial insight.
- Ensure robust governance, risk management and regulatory compliance across the function.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
