Commercial Development Manager
The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) is the National Conservatoire of Wales providing pioneering performance-based training to over 900 of the most talented actors, musicians, stage technicians, scenic designers, and arts managers from more than 40 countries. It is also one of Cardiff’s most popular arts venues hosting over 500 public performances each year. It is based at the stunning landmark building in the heart of Cardiff, overlooking beautiful, urban parkland just a 5-minute walk to the city centre. Its reputation is built on excellence, and it attracts the very best talent.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead the College’s ambition to grow further sustainable commercial activity. Specifically, this new role will be required to develop and introduce a coherent, diversified portfolio of commercial income streams that reduce institutional risk and deliver a meaningful increase to our capacity and bottom-line surplus over a 2-to-5-year period.

This new portfolio is expected to complement our existing programme of corporate events, venue hire, and box office income, and support the three core themes for the College’s strategic framework:
- Creating value for Wales – economically, socially, artistically, and culturally
- Offering world-leading training that is distinctively attractive to students and industry
- Ensuring financial and organisational sustainability
The postholder will be responsible for developing a strategy and action plan for growing the College’s commercial revenue and will lead the implementation and evaluation of agreed initiatives, all underpinned by our values: expert and inclusive; contemporary and collaborative; resourceful and responsible.

The role reports directly to the Chief Finance and Operating Officer, is expected to be a member of the College's Extended Leadership Team, and will work closely with the senior leadership team to gain their support to develop and implement this new strategy.
