The Role
This role creates new routes to customers and new revenue streams outside our existing acquisition channels, across retail energy, low carbon tech and flexibility.
The Head of Business Development originates, structures and closes strategic partnerships, including white label deals, bundled offers, OEM partnerships and long-term commercial agreements. They own each deal from first conversation to launch, then hand live partnerships to the Head of Growth to run and scale.
The role reports to the CEO, Charlie Davies
Why So Energy?
So Energy was created in 2015 because we knew energy suppliers could be better. Since then, we’ve grown rapidly but sustainably, with ~300,000 customers and over 300 Energists (what we call our people). But we’re not done! We’re on the road to a net-zero future, and we’re well on the way. We’re customer-centric, tech-led, and passionate about sustainability.
We’re driven to do our best for our customers, for each other, and for our planet. That’s why we’ve built a workplace culture that’s supportive, empowering, inclusive, and full of opportunities to grow and make an impact.
At So Energy, we take pride in our values-driven culture. We live and breathe by our six core values that guide everything we do:
- Clear
- Honest
- Ambitious
- Inquisitive
- Caring
- Sustainable
What you’ll be getting up to in this role:
- Originate, negotiate and close strategic partnerships that create new routes to market, including white label arrangements, bundled offers and long-term commercial agreements with telcos, broadband and media providers, employee benefit platforms and other consumer brands
- Build partnerships with home builders and developers to win customers at the point of new connection
- Engage OEMs and hardware manufacturers across batteries, EVs, chargers, heat pumps and solar to build a partner model, with a commercial model and customer proposition that works for the OEM, the customer and So Energy
- Position So Energy as the more agile, easier-to-work-with alternative to Octopus and the larger suppliers, and win the partners they can’t serve well
- Build the business case and deal structure for each opportunity, covering revenue share, exclusivity, pricing and margin, and secure sign-off from the CEO and SLT
- Run a clear go-to-market process for every new partnership: work with Product, Marketing, Trading and Tech to design what each partnership needs, then agree how it will run and scale over time
- Hand live partnerships to the Head of Growth to run and scale, and agree with them who leads new opportunities that Growth originates
- Own the strategic deal pipeline from origination to contract and launch, against targets for partnerships signed, revenue and customers delivered

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
