Battersea Hospital
Battersea Hospital is a CQC-registered, multi-specialty private hospital in South West London, offering ophthalmology, ENT, vascular surgery, cosmetic surgery, non-surgical aesthetics and weight management, alongside NHS insourcing and outsourcing work. We're growing fast and we're looking for a commercially-minded Head of Business Development to own that growth end to end.
About the role
This is a senior, hands-on role covering the full BD function: key account management of our surgeons and consultants, growth of our external referral and partnership channels, and ownership of the sales and marketing pipeline through to conversion, across both self-pay and PMI-funded activity. You'll lead a small team, work in close partnership with the Hospital Director, and use CRM and reporting tools to turn account, referral and marketing activity into booked, converted patient activity.
What you'll own
- Strategy & leadership: set and lead the hospital's BD strategy, lead and develop a small team, and report performance and pipeline to the Director team, using market and competitor insight across South West London to shape new growth actions
- Consultant account management: run a structured account plan for every surgeon and consultant, unlock capacity for self-pay and PMI activity, and resolve barriers around pricing, scheduling and list utilisation
- External growth channels: build and grow local referral partners, the GP and allied practitioner network, corporate partnerships, and insurer/PMI relationships, including hosting referrer and networking events
- Sales & marketing conversion: own the lead pipeline from enquiry to booking, work closely with marketing on campaigns and lead generation, set conversion targets, and fix drop-off points in the enquiry-to-booking journey
- Team & stakeholders: act as a visible leader for the BD team and build strong relationships across clinical, marketing and admin teams, deputising for the Hospital Director on BD matters as needed

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
