About the role

At Zellis Group we are driving significant transformational activities within Finance and across the group. As Head of BI, your role will be to lead our data strategy and analytics function and align it with Group business units.

This role is critical for building and scaling our BI capabilities, driving actionable insights across the business, and ensuring our data infrastructure supports rapid growth.

The ideal candidate combines strong leadership skills with a solid technical grounding fluent enough in SQL, ETL and data warehousing to contribute, direct, review and challenge the team’s work - and is a highly organised, confident individual with excellent communication skills who is passionate about data and about building high-performing teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy: Define and execute the BI vision and roadmap aligned with growth objectives. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing BI team. Partner with executives and stakeholders to translate business needs into data driven solutions.
  • Data Sourcing: Set the standards for identifying, onboarding and readying data from source systems, including offline/off-system data, working hands-on with source systems yourself and directing the team's approach to doing this at scale.
  • Data Warehouse Build: Own the design principles and standards for the data warehouse - schema, joins and pipeline architecture, contributing hands-on to the build while directing the wider team's work against them.
  • Data Transformation: Work with business analysts to translate business logic into SQL in the transform layer within an ETL tool, and set the standards that keep this work accurate and consistent across the wider team.
  • Data Warehouse Reliability: Ensure the team runs a robust refresh cadence and change process, so pipelines and logic stay current with underlying business changes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive an ongoing programme, delivered by the team, to optimise transform performance and strengthen the robustness of results.
  • Group Reporting Delivery: Own the suite of dashboards used for group-level reporting, ensuring accuracy, performance, and usability. Define the practice for report development, publication, and adoption.
  • Governance: Establish data governance, quality and security standards and metadata management. Own selection and governance of BI/data platforms and tooling and manage related vendor relationships and budget. Define and own the Group’s BI KPI/metrics framework. Drive automation and efficiency in reporting processes.
  • AI-Ready Data: Structure and govern the data platform so it supports natural language, deterministic reporting via AI tools such as MCP and Claude — ensuring the underlying data model is precise and well-governed enough that AI-generated answers are accurate and trustworthy, not approximate.
  • Documentation & Best Practice: Creating detailed documentation, including flowcharts to visualise data transform processes and data schemas.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
