Company Description

North Star Children’s Homes is dedicated to transforming the lives of children in care by providing safe, stable, and nurturing home environments that support their physical, emotional, and educational development. Our business plan addresses the crisis in children’s social care in the UK by responding to a large unmet need. Inspired by Scandinavian models, North Star Children’s Homes focuses on networks of small, therapeutic, trauma-informed, and educationally thoughtful homes. Through this family-modelled approach, the organisation aims to help children heal from trauma, break cycles of intergenerational care, and build fulfilling futures while reducing long-term societal costs. We currently have eight homes, with plans for more homes in 2027.

Role Description

The Head of Business Operations and Finance is a full-time, hybrid role responsible for overseeing the organisation’s financial operations. This role includes all aspects of invoicing, managing corporate and per home budgeting, cost management, including forecasting and cash flow, consulting to the Board on business strategy and cost management, and working closely with our clients, supporting placements. Day-to-day tasks involve invoicing, management accounts, home budgeting enactment, analysing financial and operational data, preparing clear reports for stakeholders, coordinating with internal teams and external partners, and implementing efficient systems and controls at all times. The role also contributes to long-term planning, risk management, and sustainable growth in alignment with the mission of North Star Children’s Homes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
