Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded and strategic Head of Business, Product and Services Development to help drive Smart Money Cymru Community Bank’s long-term growth, innovation and service development. This senior leadership role will focus on identifying new business opportunities, developing products and services, strengthening strategic partnerships and supporting sustainable organisational expansion across Wales. The successful candidate will bring strong strategic, analytical and relationship-building skills, with the ability to translate market insight, member needs and organisational priorities into practical growth plans and measurable outcomes.

Duties

  • Develop and deliver strategic growth plans aligned with Smart Money Cymru Community Bank’s objectives, values and long-term sustainability.
  • Identify new markets, sectors, partnerships and business opportunities to increase membership, engagement and uptake of products and services.
  • Lead and support the development, review and enhancement of member, employer and loan-related products and services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, community organisations, government representatives, funders, sector bodies and other key stakeholders.
  • Undertake market, competitor, policy and environmental analysis to inform strategic decision-making and future planning.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO and senior management team to shape value propositions, promotional activity and service development initiatives.
  • Develop robust approaches to financial, risk and governance management for partnerships, projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Define, monitor and report on performance indicators, including commercial, social, member and organisational impact.
  • Champion innovation, continuous improvement, digital development and service redesign across relevant areas of the organisation.
  • Prepare clear reports, briefings and recommendations for the CEO, Board of Directors and other relevant committees.

Experience

  • Proven senior-level experience in business development, commercial strategy, product development, service development or a related leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of strategic planning, market analysis, partnership development and performance management.
  • Experience of identifying growth opportunities, developing value propositions and delivering measurable business or service improvement outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders and external partners.
  • Strong financial and analytical capability, including the ability to interpret data, assess commercial value and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects, support change and work collaboratively with senior colleagues to deliver organisational priorities.
  • Knowledge or experience of financial services, credit unions, community banking, social finance or a regulated environment would be advantageous.
  • Relevant qualifications in business, marketing, management, finance or a related field are desirable, although equivalent senior-level experience will also be considered.
