About the team

At OSB Group, the Chief Controls Office plays a key role in strengthening first-line risk management, control discipline and governance across the business. The team works closely with senior leaders to ensure risks are well understood, controls are effective, good customer outcomes are embedded central to decision-making, and the business operates within regulatory expectations and approved risk appetite.

What you will be doing?

As our Head of Business Risk & Control (Retail), you will partner with the Retail Executive Leadership Team to help drive safe, sustainable growth through effective risk management and strong customer-focused decision making.

Reporting to the Group Controls Office Director, you'll lead the Retail Business Risk & Control team, helping to embed a mature first-line risk capability that supports innovation, strengthens customer outcomes and enables confident decision-making across the business.

Your responsibilities will include;

  • Lead the Business Risk & Control strategy across the Retail business and first-line risk framework, ensuring business, operational, conduct and product risks are identified, assessed, managed and reported effectively in line with the Group Risk Management Framework.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to the Retail Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic risk insight, constructive challenge, and pragmatic guidance to support informed decision-making, commercial objectives, and risk appetite management.
  • Drive a strong risk and control culture, embedding accountability, proactive risk ownership, continuous improvement, and risk capability across the Retail business.
  • Oversee Product and Conduct Risk management, ensuring robust product governance, Consumer Duty compliance, fair customer outcomes, effective challenge throughout the product lifecycle, and appropriate consideration of vulnerable customers.
  • Embed risk management across strategic change and transformation initiatives, partnering with Change, Technology, Operations, and third parties to ensure risks are understood, controlled, and managed through implementation and operational readiness.
  • Maintain strong governance, regulatory engagement and stakeholder relationships, leading interactions with Risk, Compliance, Audit and senior business leaders while ensuring effective remediation, control enhancement and regulatory compliance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
