Location:
Hebburn Head Office, Tyne & Wear
Salary:
£45,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)
Hours:
37 hours per week
Working Pattern:
Office-based a minimum of four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week following successful completion of probation.

About Storm Tempest
Storm Tempest is a growing multidisciplinary property consultancy providing surveying, retrofit, fire safety, health and safety, stock condition, project management and expert witness services across the UK.
With a team of 46 professionals, we support housing providers, local authorities, public sector organisations and private sector clients to improve, maintain and manage their property portfolios.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Business Support to join our Senior Management Team.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all business support functions and ensuring the company operates efficiently, compliantly and effectively as we continue to grow.
The Role
The Head of Business Support will lead and coordinate the company's central support services to both regional offices, providing operational oversight across a broad range of business functions.
Working closely with the Directors and wider Management Team, you will be responsible for developing systems, processes and procedures that support the successful delivery of our business objectives.
You will directly manage three members of the support team while overseeing the company's administration, HR, compliance, accreditations, payroll, business systems, marketing activities and tender opportunities.
This role offers the opportunity to play a significant part in shaping the future growth and development of Storm Tempest.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Business Operations
- Lead, support and develop the Business Support Team.
- Manage and continually improve business support processes and systems.
- Attend and contribute to Senior Management Team meetings.
- Produce and present business performance information and operational reports.
- Support Directors in delivering strategic objectives and business growth plans.
- Drive operational efficiencies across the organisation.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, supporting the effective management, governance and continued growth of the business.

Human Resources
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding and induction processes.
- Maintain HR systems, records and employment documentation.
- Support performance management and annual appraisal processes.
- Coordinate staff training, learning and development activities.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation and HR best practice.
Finance and Payroll
- Oversee payroll administration and associated processes.
- Work alongside the Business & Finance Manager to support financial controls and reporting.
- Support budgeting and financial planning activities.
- Liaise with external accountants and professional advisors where required.
Compliance, Quality and Accreditations
- Maintain and develop company management systems.
- Lead the administration of ISO certifications and audits.
- Manage industry accreditations including BAFE, Constructionline, CHAS and other business certifications.
- Oversee company policy documentation and review processes.
- Ensure legislative, contractual and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
Social Value and Corporate Responsibility
- Coordinate social value commitments and reporting requirements.
- Support community engagement initiatives.
- Assist operational teams in evidencing and reporting social value outcomes for clients and tenders.
Insurance and Risk Management
- Manage company insurance arrangements and annual renewals.
- Coordinate claims and risk management activities.
- Maintain appropriate insurance coverage across the business.
Marketing and Communications
- Oversee website management and content updates.
- Coordinate marketing initiatives and company communications.
- Support the preparation of case studies, award submissions and promotional material.
- Assist with maintaining and enhancing the company's brand profile.
IT and Software Management
- Oversee software licensing and subscriptions.
- Manage relationships with IT support providers.
- Support implementation of new business systems and technologies.
- Ensure company systems remain effective, secure and fit for purpose.
Facilities Management
- Oversee office facilities and workplace services.
- Manage supplier relationships and service contracts.
- Ensure offices remain safe, compliant and operationally effective.
Procurement Opportunities and Bid Support
- Monitor tender portals and identify suitable opportunities.
- Coordinate tender submissions and supporting documentation.
- Support the management team in bid preparation activities.
- Maintain supplier, framework and accreditation portals.
- Drive continual improvement of bid and tender processes.

Person Specification
Essential Skills / Experience
- Experience in a senior business support, operations, office management or business management role.
- Previous experience managing multiple administrative and support functions.
- Experience of leading and managing staff.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commercial awareness and sound business judgement.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and business software systems.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Experience within a consultancy, construction, surveying, engineering, housing or professional services environment.
- Experience overseeing quality management systems and business accreditations.
- Experience supporting HR, compliance or operational management functions.
- Experience managing public sector tender opportunities and framework submissions.
Qualifications
We welcome applications from candidates with relevant qualifications or equivalent professional experience.

- Degree or higher qualification in Business Management, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualification.
- CIPD qualification.
- CIPFA qualification.
- Other relevant admin, management, leadership or professional qualifications.
What We Offer
- Salary of £45,000 - £50,000 per annum.
- 37-hour working week.
- Office-based role at our Hebburn Head Office.
- Hybrid working arrangement with remote working available one day per week following successful completion of probation, with a minimum of four days per week office attendance.
- Starting at 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing by one additional day for each completed year of service up to a maximum of 30 days per year, plus bank holidays.
