Head of Campus Support & Security
As Head of Campus Support & Security, you will lead a broad portfolio encompassing Campus Support, Security Services, Access Control, Crime Reduction, Car Parks and Traffic Management. This is a significant leadership role with the opportunity to shape how these services evolve, ensuring they remain responsive to the changing needs of our students, colleagues and visitors.
The Role
Leading through a team of specialist managers, you will set the strategic direction for a diverse group of operational services and create a cohesive, high performing and customer focused culture.
Your remit will extend beyond day to day operations. You will develop long term strategies for security, campus support, crime reduction and mobility; lead service improvement and change; strengthen performance and governance; and explore how technology can improve security, access control and parking services.
You will play a critical role in the University's preparedness and resilience, acting as a senior lead for crime reduction, emergency response coordination and major event security planning, while working closely with the University's strategic lead for compliance with Martyn's Law.
You will build strong relationships across the University and work externally with organisations including Greater Manchester Police, local authorities, other universities and service providers.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Providing strategic leadership across Campus Support & Security, Access Control, Crime Reduction, Car Parks and Traffic Management.
- Leading and developing managers and multidisciplinary operational teams, creating a collaborative and high-performing service culture.
- Developing and delivering long-term strategies that respond to the future needs of the University and its campus community.
- Leading change, continuous improvement and the adoption of new technologies across security and operational services.
- Providing senior oversight of crime reduction, emergency response and security planning for major events.
- Ensuring safe, effective and compliant parking, mobility and traffic management operations.
- Developing strong partnerships with police, local authorities and other external agencies.
- Leading budget planning and financial governance, ensuring effective use of resources and value for money.
- Providing clear advice, reports and recommendations to senior University leaders, committees and governance groups.

About You
We are looking for an accomplished operational leader who can combine strategic thinking with credible leadership in a complex, frontline environment.
You will bring significant leadership experience from a large or complex organisation and a track record of leading managers and multidisciplinary teams. You will understand the challenges involved in delivering high profile services where safety, customer experience, operational resilience and effective risk management all matter.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Senior level knowledge of security, crime reduction, access control or estates operations.
- Experience of setting strategy, leading change and delivering measurable service improvements.
- Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to operate at senior level.
- Experience of building effective partnerships with police, local authorities or comparable external agencies.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety, operational risk and the management of complex environments.
- Financial planning and budget management experience.
- Strong digital and systems literacy and an appetite for using technology to improve services.
- The judgement and resilience to make effective decisions in complex or fast-moving operational situations.

Knowledge of traffic management and mobility services, together with an understanding of Martyn's Law and its implications for higher education environments, is essential. A relevant professional qualification or extensive equivalent senior level experience is required.
